Title: Cursed Rearm Pad
Post by: perdue3 on July 12, 2013, 11:12:08 PM
Tonight, in Frame 1, my squaddies and I went to rearm at A16. I was the first to the NE pad and when I came to a complete stop, my prop broke, plane shook profusely, and beer was spilled. I calmly told my squaddies to go gear up and rearm at another nearby field. As the others were rearming 3 TBM's rolled in and vulched all of them. Now, I can understand the vulch thing, I can understand a bug in a map. But, this bug in the map directly caused the loss of 3 planes. I am not asking for a point bonus, free plane, etc., I am simply griping. However some compensation would be nice. Terrain Team, here is the film:

Hope it gets fixed.

I feel your pain (I pranged prop landing on the CV to re-fuel/re-arm).

I wonder if you would have had a prop hit if you had approached the pad off the taxiway instead of via the grass?
Yes, I know that it's not an issue with most maps but if there was any kind of difference in height between the
concrete and the grass then that may account for it.

Should I really have to? No need to troll or throw this on me. This is not my fault and I will not allow you to conjure up some crap about how I dont know how to rearm. Even if there is a height difference it is a map flaw and Terrain Team should deal with it, no?

Calm down perdue3  I don't see it as any one throwing any thing at you.
What Arlo mentions has happened in the past with terrains that have custom airfields in them.
There have been several anomalies brought up in this terrain.
As a member of the Terrain Team I am looking into these issues with the terrain.
We will find the problem and correct it.

Easy, Francis. I was commiserating and theorizing, not criticizing and embarrassing.

Both of us. Here I was, assuring some of our new FSOers that they'll land and re-arm just fine ... then
of course, I plop my F6F on the Deck as if it was an F4U and my prop goes 'twang!' I was quite
embarrassed. Went to the bridge and watched the rest conduct their landing and re-arming. We lost
a few this frame and I'm sorry you lost some due to the logistical turn-around and not being able
to re-arm at the base you first went to.

I know I and command officers in my squadron would have been just as frustrated.  :salute

I remember one--think it was an Italy terrain. Had a problem with the convoy crossing the end of the runway. I remember once getting down to re-arm and sitting on the end of the runway waiting for the rest of the squad. I hear this sound coming from my right--it's the trucks coming right at me. Wham blam crash! I'm spinning all over the place shedding pieces! Was both funny and not so funny as hell. :rofl

Another time I want to say it was the same map some of the bases had a bump about a third of the way down the runway. You're down and rolling out and blam! Your gear collapses. That sucked too.

They're a lot of work and they test the heck out of em. You'd be forever getting every bug and if ya did that you could never have events on these terrains--they'd take too long to finalize. I'll take em with the warts and be thankful there's guys that take the time to put em together for the rest of us. :salute

Hey- your landing was a heck of a lot better than mine! :rofl

I went to that base because I knew it wouldnt get vulched, bombed, etc. but the rearm pads were freaking broke. So they had to go to the target base and get rocket vulched by TBM's. I was less than excited.

Perd, after our conversation, I ran over to A16 and watched two guys rearm on the SW pad. They got their bombs and took off again. The terrain team is looking at the terrain, so stay tuned...

Thanks, as I said, it is the NE pad that gave me the early trip to bed.

Perdue is correct there is a problem with the NE Rearm pad at A16. I just tried it offline. If you attempt to move after you have rearmed you will crack your prop.
It doesnt matter if you taxi in from the grass or taxiway. The second you attempt to move once you have the  message saying your aircraft is rearmed, you're screwed.

I wouldnt make it up and complain on BBS if it didnt happen. But thanks Shifty, you have more credibility than I. Hopefully it will be sorted out.

Your credibility counts as much as mine I think. I thought it might be a good idea to have any reported map bug or glitch verified off-line as well.

The CM part gives you more credibility, right?

Let's not take this thread in the same direction that most seem to go. A valid claim was made and verified. A terrain issue was found and is being addressed.

As far as "credibility" or "respect" goes, I'm of the opinion that everyone starts out even, until they prove otherwise by their actions. It takes time to repair damaged reputation, but over time it will happen if everyone is willing. The problem is that it seems not everyone is willing to try.

I personally see no issues with how this issue was brought up or handled, and see no reason to take this thread to a place it appears to be headed.

Why should it? CMs are volunteers, we're just players like everybody else. Each player regardless of being a new guy a vet or a CM creates and maintains thier credibility.
Your credibility is determined you, mine is determined by me. Being a CM has nothing to do with it. Our credibility should be equal unless one of us hurts our own credibility by our own actions. In my mind I'm no more credible than you. There are times I may not agree with your opinion, there have been times in the past I didn't like the method used by you to make your point or show your discontent with a situation. That doesn't mean I question or doubt your credibility on the situation. I've never known you to be dishonest or lie. Therefore regardless of heated and very opinionated incidents in the past. Your credibility is respected by me.

Discussion of an issue is never a bad thing. When things start to get personal, the thread stops being productive.

Good catch on that problem. Terrains are very complicated and from time to time an issue will be found. Do not hesitate to come forward with a concern.

CC on the fix.

:salute all.
