Title: Manchukuo AF Ki-43

Lyric1 kindly found me some photos and profiles on this unusual Ki-43 from the Manchukuo Air Force. Manchukuo was the puppet state set up in North Eastern China by the Japanese following their invasion in 1931. This state had its own army, navy and later air force, which was controlled, supplied and trained by the Japanese. The Air Force achieved little in the war as it was given second rate equipment and little fuel. The Japanese supplied it mostly with obsolete Ki-27s although a few Ki-43s and Ki-44s were in service by 1944. However a Manchukuo Ki-27 did manage to bring down a B-29 in a ramming attack in December 1944.

Great skin! I had started working on one of these skins (a different aircraft with different writing on the sides) a couple of weeks ago but I'm not very good.

According to this, several Oscars in this paint scheme were based in Mukden in September 1944.

The Thai AF Oscar is already on my list of skins to do.  :D

The Manchukuo AF aircraft were apparently paid for by various China based Japanese factories who were "encouraged" to make voluntary contributions to their defence. I'd guess the writing on the fuselage may have related to whichever company paid for that plane. Oddly the characters read left to right on one side of the fuselage and right to left on the other.
