Popova (standing) with other Soviet pilots
Nadezhda Popova, one of the Soviet Union's female pilots who flew the Polikarpov Po-2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polikarpov_Po-2) biplane on low-altitude night-time bombing missions against Wehrmacht troops, has died at the age of 91. Popova was one of the fliers called "Nachthexen" ("Night Witches") by the Germans.

Shame on you! She was a decorated combat veteran pilot and all you can do is comment on her appearance? Shame on you both!

ya you're right, no disrespect intended but, so were millions of others before and after her, and most we have never heard of or will ever hear about. and although noteworthy, her story is not unique.

The Regiment that Popova was in was very decorated and unique and interesting in a number of ways. It was by no means just another combat regiment that happened to be composed of women.
Like it or not, there were women in the Soviet military that filled both extremely ordinary and extremely extraordinary roles during World War II.
