Title: Historic Gunsight Pack: Updated russian gunsights.
Post by: bustr on July 17, 2013, 02:44:03 PM
Choosing to error on the side of history, I watched hours of Russian ww2 and modern documentaries to find two Russian gunsight reticles. Flight sims and including myself have made mistakes in our interpretations of the Russian PBP1 reticle. Playability visa how the gunsight is presented in monitors.

I have included the French OPL gunsight.

Each country folder has a readme. As always copy both the (bmp) and (mil) file for each gunsight to the game's sights folder or the gunsight will show too small.

---------------------------------------------------------------
PBP1 Early - 100Mil main ring with the secondary ring and stadia marks defining 6ths of the diameter. This would have been seen in the Yak7, I16 and pre 44 gunsights.

PBP1 Late - 120Mil main ring with secondary ring and stadia marks defining 6ths of the diameter. This would have been seen in later Yak and Lavochkin. The larger main ring edge will show under G in turns for lead shots.

I'm like sasquatch hunters now. First thing I see in cockpit photos and films is the gunsight. Or a squatch behind every tree.

Everything else is a common set of optical principles related to reflex gunsights across all of the WW2 protagonists. Wing gun centric reticle will generally be large rings defining dispersion and lead at range. Nose and wing root will be a ring divided in 5ths or 6ths based on a cross & stadia marks, progressively smaller rings, or some combination.
