Hey if I bail out of a German plane shouldn't I have a Luger instead of a 1911? Just saying :)

and if we get down to it, you should be able to up again the next sortie where allied pilots would have to wait a couple of weeks (minimum). But what fun is that?

Actually..........IIRC, irl, German sticks did not carry a sidearm. But an officer would have a Luger, not a Walther, no?

Walther P38, PP, PPK or Browning Hi-Power were the most common pistols to be carried by German pilots as far as I've ever been able to find.
Norwegian produced 1911's and Luger P08s and other pistols did make their way into Luftwaffe cockpits apparently, though. Lugers are fairly large pistols, especially in a small cockpit like that of the 190 or especially 109. Although often times German pilots didn't carry any more than a flare gun.

Being an officer was not a requirement for being a combat pilot in the Luftwaffe.

No.
There were many different sidearms carried, if (as noted) any at all. Plane crews did genrally carry none. The Mauser HSc was a very popular and much used pistol in the Luftwaffe.
The Luger wielding German Officers is often more a Hollywood icon.
If any weapons were carried on board, for example for long range recon planes, they were part of the survival Kit. For example The Luftwaffe Drilling made by Sauer:

I wish we had different animations for different kinds of troops. For instance, British Paras from the C47; US Marines from the LVT2; US (or Soviet) infantry from the M3; German infantry from the SdKfz 251; and US infantry from the jeep.
In the future when HTC adds in different kinds of infantry for different jobs, I hope to see engineers, commandos, etc. :aok

The Browning Hi-Power P35 was not common in comparison to the Walther P38, or even the Luger for that matter. ;) From what I have read most of them went to SS units, police, and other non-Wehrmacht units. Various sources give various details on the matter.
I do know that the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe issued the P38 and PPK to the bulk of their officers with the PPK going to the rank of Oberstleutnant (Lt Col.) and above. There were some fringe models issued (Astra, Steyr, and Mauser mostly), but in limited numbers. The P38 was issued to members of crew served weapons in many cases such as a machine gunner, Panzershreck, etc.
