probably been brought up a million times but how realistic is it that 2 planes collide in mid air at over 400 knts and one flies home unhurt.... or even worst what happen to me a little while ago... a KI43 collided head on with my Hetzer and flew away unharmed..... Hetzer losses track and engine......
-
The enemy didn't hit your Hetzer so why should he be damaged?
Here...read this an learn how the collision model works.

There is what YOU see from your computer, and there is what HE sees on his computer. On your there was a collision, on his there wasn't and he just missed you. So you get damage, and he doesn't. If the "other guy" automatically took damage like you are saying it wouldn't be fair. It could happen that a guy flies over your hetzer and you watch him fly by and then BOOM your in the tower. Bet you wouldn't like it that way would ya?
Check this out. Its two videos from each guys view laid one on top of the other. You can see how much ..... from one view... the guy misses the other.

Read the above mentioned stuff and accept that if you don't hit stuff (or allow stuff to hit you), you won't take damage. It's really that simple.
Welcome to the game.

how are there people who still don't understand how this works?? not only is it incredibly simple, it's been gone over 7 zillion times already. the collision model isn't broken, so i seriously doubt they'll heed your request to fix it.

What is that supposed to mean?

Hey guys (*slaps Larry, Curley and Moe*), read the OP before opening your yaps or please just ignore this forum (Help & Training) with responces like these. This complaint is NOT the typical one beyond the first sentence.

Back on topic: Film please or report this in the bugs forum, that sounds like a bug in one of those two models than a problem with the system. Otherwise, the system works fine and prevent people from abusing intentional collisions.

Your response IS normal except for the last sentence.
Here ya go...now it's your turn to learn how the collision model works.

How so? That it involves a GV is superficially different, but ultimately it is the same old same old.

Assumptions, assumptions....
First thing is first, film is needed to draw any definitive conclusions. But, second thing is second, the wager!: I'll bet $5 either this post is a bug or has nothing (not one iota) to do with a collision taking place.
Taking the OP at his word, it sounds like he had a frontal vs frontal collision against a KI while in his Hetzer.... how did you guys miss that opportunity to pounce on the OP? Either this is a serious bug with the new Hetzer, or it is more likely impossible as I don't think collisions register off a vehicle's front end like they do in aircraft (and the only thing vehicles collide with in this game are static objects).
Was this damage from the collision, or from the KI steaming with guns blazing perpendicular to the rear armor, or from an enemy tank/AAA in the area? Since GVs don't/shouldn't collide, and thus he receives no collision damage, chances are good he got shot in that bellybutton by the KI or by another tank. Most likely this is proof the OP is unaware of the true nature/mechanics of the collision model in the game.
Lastly, there is no way without film can we conclude that a collision even took place!!!! (yeah, hello, where's the geniuses on the fact you've all just been caught here chewing him out about collision modeling when the collision model might not even have ANYTHING to do with this ENTIRE THREAD!) Was a message displayed to the OP while in his Hetzer that the KI pilot collided with them before the KI flew away unharmed?.... pretty sure planes can collide with vehicles in this game, that's a mechanic I'm familiar with too often, but never seen a vehicle collide with a plane and take damage...
Assuming the OP is incompitent (like in this post) or assuming there is a serious bug and maybe a problem (like my first post).... The point: Which opinion did the rest of you want to go on the record here with Skuzzy for comming to the Official HiTech Creations Aces High Help & Training Forum today?
....but ultimately it is the same old same old.
Couldn't agree more.
How many "haha, collision model n00b" responces were made in the Help and Training forum before I intervened? ... get what I'm saying?... how much salt has been thrown in this thread when 1) the wound wasn't even visible and 2) the OP came looking for assistance (I must point out, again, this is the Help and Training forum, not GD or OT)? Throwing salt around aimlessly is very bad luck.
When one comes to the Help & Training forum asking for help, and you try to help them, you must first be sure to positively identify the problem... to quote the wiser: "Don't be a dick."

Vehicles collide with airplanes, Babalonian.
I agree non-helpful responses are bad, but that doesn't make the situation described by the OP something new.
-
If the OP has any more questions I expect he'll let us know Babalon. You don't need to intervene to be helpful.

This post was originally started in the "Aces High Bug Reports" thread. Skuzzy moved it here ....only guessing here but, because he wants people to learn or the OP get help on understanding how the Collision model works. Yes planes can collide with vehicles. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. The same collision model is in place for both.
So this has worked out well, Bablonian has learned some thing too. :D

Well one thing no one has considered is the fact the KI43 can carry a couple of bombs, sure they're on the small side but it carries them! Possibly the KI collided with the Hertz and dropped it's bombs, the bombs could cause the damage and on the KI's front end he missed the Hertz so he flew away unhurt.
I felt the OP got the answer when he was directed to the "lag" imfo on the trainers site and didn't think anymore was needed. This is my normal behaviour,I let others post any relevant imfo and only post if I think something is incorrect or the discussion gets outta hand.
Someone already said it,same ole same ole and I don't mean the collision!
:salute
-
It's something I never really considered because I don't play down in the weeds much. It's been hinted around in this thread but not stated explicitly.
Is this how it works?
GV-GV collisions, they just stop, no damage?
GV-AC collisions, they work like normal AC-AC collisions?
Wiley.

An airplane should never survive hitting a tank regardless of the tank's surviving.

Obviously you don't understand how the collision model works.
-
An opinion collides with a fact. In one player's viewpoint the opinion changes, in another player's viewpoint the opinion survives intact.
When you know how the collision model works it's clear that in the second case the fact went over the player's head and there was no collision.

Because you obviously have no idea how the collision model works in this game, maybe this will clue you in.
Collisions
Collisions and how they are modeled is one of the most misunderstood, and therefore most contentious, issues in the game. The usual question is how 1 player can suffer catastrophic damage in a collision while the other player suffers no damage at all. The explanation is in the understanding of how lag affects the reality on the two front-ends and how HiTech mitigates collisions.
The first thing you must understand is that a collision can occur on one front-end but not on the other. The reason for this is the different realities caused by lag. Player 1 can see himself safely past Player 2 at point A while at exactly the same time Player 2 sees himself colliding with Player 1 at point B. Whether through maneuvering to avoid the collision or just plain luck, Player 1 did not collide on his front-end. Player 2 did.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, take a look at the images below. They are from films of a duel between Bronk and Tangle. The first picture is from Bronk's film and clearly shows Bronk colliding with Tangle.
The second picture is from Tangle's film and shows Tangle's view at exactly the same instant. Notice the "Bronk has collided with you" message in the text buffer. In Tangle's view, though, there is almost two plane lengths of separation between him and Bronk.
The second key to understanding collisions is knowing how HiTech mitigates collisions. It's really very simple: If a collision occurs on your front-end, you suffer damage from the collision. If a collision does not occur on your front-end, you do not suffer damage. Looking at the two images above, it is pretty clear that this is the only way to do it. How would you like to be Tangle in this scenario and receive damage from a collision you were obviously not involved in?
There are lots of scenarios where a collision can occur on 1 front-end and not the other. You may not even see the collision (i.e. you were looking a different direction) and suddenly suffer collision damage. You may see the collision, but the other guy maneuvered out of the way. The bottom line, though, is in your front-end's version of reality, a collision occurred. If a collision did not occur on the other front-end's version of reality, the other player's plane will not suffer damage.

Only if quantum theory is correct, will it help. Of course, that opens up a whole new discussion, which insures headaches and migraines to follow.

Why is there a cat in the server room?

Because it is also in the parking lot.
Oh goody. Now we have Quantum Kitty to tangle with.

:D Indeed, never seen it (vehicle colides with the plane, vehicle takes damage), but that doesn't mean I wouldn't believe it.

Here's something REALLY scary!!!!! At least for Skuzzy
Quantum Mayonnaise.
And in a parallel universe doesn't Skuzzy like mayonnaise?

Quantum Mayo proved that instantaneous copies of itself does not improve the flavor at all. No longer theory. :)

Why of course it wouldn't!!! How can the taste of perfection be improved???
You just have more perfection.

It is all relative. Just because it is a perfect turd, does not mean it tastes good. Quite the opposite. :D

Oops, I did it again... Due to the latency I thought the undersea cables would still be made of copper. Now that I did some reading I'm starting to recall I've read that stuff long ago.
Well then, the next step would be to get the fiber from AH servers to the undersea cable, and then from there to my whereabouts. Still too much copper in between...
