Title: Father of the Bride
Post by: Oldman731 on August 05, 2013, 10:33:08 PM
So the photos came in late. Hey, they're artists, they refuse to be governed by a clock.

The wedding was on Saturday, June 8 of this year, at Whitehall Manor in
Bluemont, Virginia.  Friday's weather was loathsome, rain, humid, yuck.
Saturday dawned foggy, misty, humid.  But at noon or so the clouds parted,
the sun smiled and all was well.

For those who did not already know, when it comes to my daughter I make Steve Martin's character look positively enlightened.
Nevertheless,  I did not weep.  Some observers thought I was close, but there is no
objective proof of that.

Clearly the best wedding I've ever seen.  I told the owner, in the middle of
things, that you knew all was well when you realized you needed a bigger
dance floor.  That MIT crowd is wild.

And now...things have changed....

Attached are eight of 1300 photos.

Your Daughter was a beautiful Bride Oldman!

Congrats to her and her new Husband.  :aok

My Daughter was just Married this last Saturday as well. I can say that the first time I saw her just before I walked her down the aisle, she broke my heart. It was a really great day!

I'll post a few pics as I get them sorted, but will do it it another thread.

Congrats Sir!

Congrats again, John!!!!

I have performed at many, many weddings and looking at those photos, it looks like it was a picture-perfect occasion.

One day, hopefully later than sooner, I will be in that same position that you were, but I'm not rushing things.

Today I had to drop my kid off at the airport so he can report to his first USAF assignment.

I know its normal for your kids to go their own way, be it marriage, school, work, military service. But Man you still miss them. It makes you feel old and you wish you can go back to when they were little so you could squeeze just a little more time with them.

You have a Lovely daughter. Congrats on the wedding.

And life will never be the same.  Congrats to your son on his decision, where's he going?

Quick story:

When Kate was about 4, we were sitting on the couch watching "The Little Mermaid."  Got to the end (ANYONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN IT, STOP HERE!) where the mermaid gets her legs and runs off with the prince, and Kate started to cry.

I said, "Kate, what's wrong?"

She said: "She's leaving her father!"

And I thought to myself, "YES!"

Forward about a quarter of a century.  At the wedding, when it came time for the father's toast (which I urge all fathers to avoid if possible), I mentioned "my little mermaid," just because that's how I think of her.  I was surprised to hear a ripple through the crowd.  Most of them, as it happened, had heard the story.

Made me very proud.
