Title: New Batman
Post by: Saxman on August 23, 2013, 07:10:27 AM
Speaking of superheroes, the role of Batman in Man of Steel 2 has officially been announced:

And no, this ISN'T a joke.

While I agree it was a good idea to reboot rather than try to tie it into the Dark Knight series, THIS is the best they could come up with? Wasn't Michael Keaton available? ;-P Hell, I'd have taken another turn by George Clooney over this.

Batman fighting Superman....how ridiculous is that?  Batman is a rich guy with toys, Superman can fly, has far greater strength, x-ray eyes that can break chains etc. etc.  My money is on Superman in that fight.

Cue the Bat-fanboys with their counter arguments.

The entire Bat Family is such a ridiculous band of Mary Sues I honestly have a hard time taking the characters seriously. ESPECIALLY Cassandra Cain.

On the other hand...

Steven Hawking would make a better man, according to one comedian and I agree

Ben Affleck's acting abilities are on the low end of the scale, for sure.  His face is virtually expressionless most of the time.  That said, I don't get the dogpiling of criticism this guy has gotten over the years.  He may be lacking for his job but man, the venom directed at this guy.  Wow.

One "actor" I wish would book one of those one-way trips to Mars, would be Adam Sandler.  I'll even pay his way.

On one hand, Heath Ledger.  On the other, Daredevil.  Affleck can't be blamed entirely for Daredevil, that movie was just... no.

I just can't see it working.  This movie is going to require a Batman that can stand eye to eye with Superman and make you believe he's got a shot at winning.  I can't see Affleck convincing anyone of that.  Bale would have been iffy too.

Karl Urban might have been able to pull it off.

Wiley.

Kryptonite...

Ahhh, good point.  Well, that will make for an interesting film then, Superman will kick Batman's bellybutton until Batman pulls out a bunch of cheatingass kryptonite.

Think I'll pass.

Having Steven Hawking as an evil character could add a comical spin.

Good movies are made more by the behind the scenes decisions than by the actors actually in it.  You cannot say that Sean Connery is bad, yet I think Highlander-2: The Quickening is atrocious and most fans disavow it ever existed, Connery included.

The only thing that keeps me from flipping a table is the fact that Kevin Smith is friends with Affleck.  Hopefully they can use Kevin as a consultant to at least greenlight the script or something.

If it is Kevin Smith approved, it could be good.

To be fair, Batman does NOT need a major hollywood star.  Batman is already famous, and anybody can play that role.  The supporting roles for super hero movies are where you need big names to help keep those characters from being buried.

I agree that the sum of a movie needs more than the star - Clooney made a good Batman and an excellent Bruce Wayne but the Schumacher directing, set design, script and miscasting across the board made Batman & Robin dire. Just as theres no doubt Joss Whedon's script and direction made The Avengers what it was, just as Nolan made the Dark Knight trilogy - there can be legitimate doubt about the differences in quality if perhaps Michael Bay or George Lucas had made those films.

I disagree that anyone could play Batman - but there is a case that unusual casting choices in the Batman films have often been proved right - Keaton, Pfeiffer, Hathaway & Ledger are the most obvious and I'm warming to Affleck as Batman.
Kevin Smith's Batman books are good -but are they the same calibre as Loeb, Synder, Moore or Frank Miller? Plus don't forget when it comes to Affleck and Kevin Smith - only one of those cats is an oscar winning script writer & producer, and Golden Globe winning director

 Tronsky

almost anyone could be a good Batman...imo

i'm pretty sure he was cast in the hope that he will be a good Bruce Wayne *shrug*

personally I am kind of fed up with Batman reboots and new actors and blah ;/   I think I will pretend The Dark Knight Rises doesn't exist, and pretend TDK was the last one for a while

that was the best one for sure :aok

I don't understand Hollywood at all....the same thing you mention with spiderman...

although I read that they are making a new Conan with Arnold...I am guessing it will be a King Conan...I did like Jason Mamoa in the latest but that was it...the whole Cimmerian village in that.... was atrocious and NOTHING like what Robert E Howard describes.
