Title: Help us Help you HTC
Post by: Nashorn on August 26, 2013, 02:17:24 PM
I would like HTC to let us know what sort on information they like to gather on airplanes before they include them in game, that way when someone wants to wish for a new plane, we can take it upon ourselves to include as much relevant info we can in our post

A) it has to of been in combat and during world war two.

Thats the criteria you need to meet, it can't be a prototype either (i.e YB-17). Bring as much information you have and post it.

no not either of those too, I am talking about what sort of flight data, pictures they need, dimensions, just what sort of technical info they specificly look for

I don't think HTC allows us to give him that kind of information, they do that research themselves - however you can contribute and offer it - for example I posted this a while back:

Ersatzteil-Liste Fw 190
Focke-Wulf Flugzeubau G.m.b.H. Bremen

This is the actual flight data and technical manual for the August 1944 Fw-190 series (A/F/G) straight from the factory itself.
Best way to get something like this is contact them directly and ask for a copy. There are some manuals floating around the internet, but I have an actual copy from Bremen themselves, I really don't rely on the internet for stuff, but technical manuals are a major plus. Now that's just me, I'm not sure where HTC gets his info, problem with the internet is its hard to validate something (wikipedia for example).

There are reprints, Mine I believe is an actual copy (its dated August 44), however I also have a newer copy of FW 190 tech thats dated 1972, the same format (I mistakenly bought it thinking it was a real copy, but it turns out to be a reprint, I had to buy the older copy just to make sure it was exact)

Why does HTC post screen shots up to 10 days before a new release?

Lets see hmmmm, Yak cockpit didn't have the HUB cannon manual cocker handle pull extending between the pilots knees. Now you see one in every yak cockpit ripe for the yanking......yeah Waffle, I know, who wants to look down between their knees all the time at their large cocking handle.

What happens in the first week after a new ride is released in the forums?

Everyone with an ax to grind tells Hitech exactly how dumb his choices of performance and everything else is. Sometimes a patch is released within 24 hours with ahem...player suggested choices.... :uhoh :huh :) Or up to several months later with the help of very dedicated players digging around in manuals.

It's up to you to contribute. Some art changes only before the release after inspecting the preview screen shots. Performance changes after the release along with some art changes if you find something documented that's really obviously a whoopsie kind of over sight by the team.

I know of a number of gunsight issues that probably will never artistically be addressed. On the other hand in the Typhoon, the reflector plate mask sits on the pilot side of the collimator lens standing at 90 degrees versus 45. You can see this from F3 mode zoomed into the side of the cockpit. Or in the F4U-1 the collimator lens doesn't render below the reflector plate at all.

Maybe when the Tempest is updated Waffle can fix this oversight with the Typhoon. Tempest and late Typhoon like in the game were issued the Type I Mk III which had no reflector plate projecting a dot on the inside of the armored screen. This was as a result of the Beaumont modification of the Mk II to reduce glare for rocket firing.

Who else still remembers when gunsights were at a fixed position varying on the aircraft, regardless of your FOV or view position? Now we've got sights that behave much more realistically and can be scaled to the right size in mils regardless of aircraft, and that was all driven by player input and feedback.

As per the 3D stuff, I'd prefer to have: (in order of preference)

digital copies of dimensioned engineering drawings / blueprints like these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/North-American-Aviation-SNJ-3-4-5-6-Aircraft-Blueprints-Engineering-Drawings-/111101846339?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19de2fa343 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/North-American-Aviation-SNJ-3-4-5-6-Aircraft-Blueprints-Engineering-Drawings-/111101846339?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19de2fa343)
You would be surprised how just having a known dimension of something, can make everything else fall into place.

erection and maintenance manuals - <snicker>  for station diagrams (known dimensions), for close up of gear mechanisms, operating limits of control surfaces plus usually good close ups / photos of all system controls.

Pilot's manuals (for same reasons as above)

I like the maru mechanic series, and aero detail books in combination with the above for 3 views and drawings of systems

and when little else is available, it's up to restoration / crash photos /period photos and the old eyeball.

So, I prefer blueprints to work from. :)

We've got all of that and more in the Westland Whirlwind thread Waffle:

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,313538.0.html

I even stole the blueprints and got reprimanded by the vintage aeroplane police.

We've made it so easy for you you might as well push the Whirlwind to the top of your in tray. Probably only take you an hour or two to knock it together  :rock

not too be rude guys, but I did not make this thread so that everyone could post "hey look at my thread!" all im looking for here is answers from HTC on what sort of documentation/info we can provide to help them out with wishes the most, and I thank waffle for replying and I hope any future wishes made will try to include that information, so please don't use my wish to promote your already 25 page wishes, as I am sure HTC gets that you want the D520 and whirlwind by now

Nashorn,

If you have access to the kinds of material Waffle listed. Just call the HTC office to see if they can use any of it. One might think you are more upset that we didn't go, wow, what a great guy is Nashorn in his own post. I suspect there have been players over the years who chose that kind of a route versus this forum.

By the time it gets to the front page previews, someone at HTC feels it's 99% ready to go. That 1% makes for at least a week of forum drama and entertainment.

bustr and the "Big Cocker" anyone......I have Waffle to thank for that one.

haha no do not worry, I am not wanting any recognition for this post, I am doing research on a plane right now and I want to know what sort of material is best to use to make a proper informative wish on the BBS, I personally don't want to call HTC and ask them if information would be helpful in person because that would defeat the purpose of a forum would it not?

Something about making the effort in such a digital impersonal age has a certain character to it. I was thinking about the HTC human side of the equation also. Waffle didn't have to respond which means a lot for everyone in the forum now. Thank you for helping facilitate that. The human voice is an anachronism in todays age, like your word being your bond used to mean the same as signing a contract.
