Title: Ditching after being hit by enemy bullets
Post by: chaser on August 27, 2013, 08:52:13 PM
Recently I've noticed a few guys squirreling out of being killed by landing on the dirt after I ping them a few times and ditching. They get a ditch and I don't get a kill. However 2 days in a row now I've landed on the dirt and let the enemy fly away, 1 being almost a sector away, before towering and they still get a kill on me. So why am I being denied a kill while they still get a kill on me?

If you ditch in enemy territory it scores as a capture and the guy that shot you down if still airborne will get a kill. Ditch in friendly or neutral territory and you'll be scored as a ditch and the other guy won't receive any credit.

I think its based on distance from nearest base, and who owns it. i.e. you can ditch next your own field, but you will be captured and the other pilot awarded the kill if you try in nearer to his base.

It's all about where you ditch and if you were pinged.

If you ditch in friendly territory (=closest base to you is a friendly one) you will get always a "ditched", no matter if you had been hit or not.
If you ditch in enemy territory, you will get at least a "captured" - if you had been pinged by an enemy before and this enemy is still up, he will get a kill on you, no matter where he is. If you had not been hit at all, an enemy needs to be in proxy range to get the kill on you.

So finish them off next time.

Usually when this happens it's either a fuel or oil ping that the victim survives and is able to exit the battle with his plane otherwise intact, or a vulch of a plane flying so low and slow taking off or landing that the crash is survivable. I don't think the would-be killer has much to complain about in either situation.

You asked this in-game and myself and others explained it to you then.  Why are you asking the same question here again?  Do you really still not understand what you were told earlier which is exactly what you are being told now, or do you just want to complain about others ditching and denying you a kill?

Yes and no. Whichever is closer, friendly or enemy base, depends on whether you get a ditch or not. I you are closer to friendly base, you will receive a ditch. If you are closer to an enemy field, you will receive a capture.

Radar circles provide a good measuring system in most cases: If you're inside the circle of your own field, then it's a ditch. Inside the enemy circle it's a capture. Things get funnier on the centre island where there's a gazillion vehicle fields near each other, multiple circles overlapping each other. That's where you'd need a ruler...

If you want to get a ditch also watch out for enemy carrier groups. I've landed at my own strats and got captured because an enemy carrier was nearby.

Ditching favors the less intrepid.

Stay safe near your own fields and never attack the enemy and you, too, can ditch without penalty.
