Howdy all .... so I am taking advantage of a year in school. I am going to build a bucket T. Tomorrow I am pulling a 289 with a C3. My goal is to have a roller in the next year. So to the topic of the thread:
I have a 9" out of a 69 F100 (3.50). Gears are in good shape, bearings are not. I will get a rebuild kit and reassemble to spec. The piece I can't figure out how to do is disassemble the differential itself. I have the ring gear off, now I am staring at the differential, looking at the spider gear axle thinking that cant be the first step. Any 9" experts out there?
I am trying to keep this on the cheap, the price of a book is what I would pay here for a set of Disc brakes. Internet has tons of info, except this piece of the disassembly lol....

I have found that some public library's have a set of books like a Chilton and so on for various vehicles. Check there, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Okay I just emailed you a zipped file. After you unzip the file open them with Windows Picture and Fax viewer and zoom in as needed. Let me know if that works for ya. :salute

I did the wheel bearing on my '88 Ford F150 a few years ago. Pretty self explanatory. When putting the differential gear back in (the "banjo"?), remember that 1 needs to be rolled in the front and the other the rear at the same time. :D
Oh, and prepare to get dirty. There is no clean way to get that job done. :aok

Yep, smelled like Klingon turd when I took it apart (the main housing). Going to read uptowns stuff before I move onto the dif. I will post some pics of the engine tomorrow if all goes well.... lol

I have the solution to this problem. I sit on a stool and point and let my son do the work. :D

So I have a better one .... lol found a 302 out of a 78 Ford Pick Up....

So while my son is watching TV, daughter comes out and wants to dig in... was so cool.

a 302 from late 70's is gonna suck.
if you can swing it, grab a 5 liter from a wrecked fox mustang. later than 86.
the 9" rear is overly heavy. you may do better to find a 8.8, which is much lighter, and nearly as strong. simpler to rebuild too.,

I thought about all of that. I was looking at a cruiser that is bullet proof versus a runner. I figure with some mild mods, I will see 160-180 HP which is more than enough for a driver bucket T. That and a 9" is solid. The 8.8s cases just do not have that classic look.
The U-Pull-It near me has amazing engines, I just do not want to screw with the newer stuff. There was a Lincoln Mk VIII ... 6 Bolt Main 32v V8 ... same price as the 302 I pulled. Same for rear ends, there were a couple of Jags ... same story. Not interested, I just want simple, easy, and classic.
The look I am going for is Speedways Tribute T.
