on launching from v-bases.
lemme know. it kind of bunches some up, i know, and can be hard to launch. let me know if you guys have problems, such as frame rates, etc doing this. i'll check this tonight. i get home from work around 9'ish tonight. if most have problems, i can change it tonight......

No problem here. When there's no time pressure in an FSO, JG11 will sometimes roll from the hangar instead of the spawn point on the runway. Kind of a cool little game we play with ourselves to get more "in the mood."
That said, I do know that some folks take a huge frame rate hit when doing this. I know several who always use the "auto takeoff" from the runway spawn point during FSO, because they get down into single-digit frame rates when several squads all roll at the same time.
Sadly, I think we need to err on the side of caution when considering FPS, otherwise we'll drive off some of our longest-term customers.
All the above is IMHO, of course. :salute

I liked it the last time we had to do it. I had no real issues with it, and you could definitely tell those that hadn't practiced for it. I don't remember people in my squad complaining of a huge frame rate hit like several did with the clouds.
-
JG54 doesn't have a problem with it!

Response from the title of your thread, yes those pants make you look fat.
Now on to reading the post...
... ah I see...
I didn't like doing it, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask squads to do this.

Bad idea. In my opinion.

if you cant roll from a Vbase...you shouldn't be flying an FSO :uhoh

Well I have done it in the past but it gets harder the more modern the plane Early War, Mid War, or Late War. Early War is usually easy because the planes are light. A FW190 is not as light as a 109E, Same goes for the Hurri 1 and Spit XIV, P39 to P47N etc. It is just a different ball game but still possible with ALOT of practice or a well thought out plan. Just expect ALOT of ditches and crashed planes early in the logs.

Of course i can do it, but it is an unnecessary complication.

i love vbase take-offs and so does JG54!!

My opinion is no. It's 1) not needed, 2) a poor idea since most planes built after 1940 require longer smoother runways, 3) depending on the field you spawn in the FH, which only lets planes of a small wingspan through the door, and 4) honestly why? Use a different map. Use different fields on the map. Actually use historic distances and fuel burn, instead of looking for fields 5 minutes from each other (it's a little too MA furball mentality to do that, IMO).
In all fairness, you shouldn't HAVE to assign fighters to up from a v-field. Ever.

I know you can :P
I actually like it....

well lets see, herzogenaurach germany 1944 was a grass strip of which both 109's and 190's trained and protected nuremburg from. the germans didnt have full sized airports everytime they needed to get a plane up. hell sometimes they hid them in the woods and took off from little unfinished roads.
to balk at taking off from a vbase is to say that germany only had finished runways all over europe, and we all know thats just not true. launch from a vbase. maybe next week, people will get to take off from a airfield and not have to dodge tree's and guns.
its not a unnecessary complication, but rather its an interesting and added challenge. I'm all for it!
besides, krusty, do you actually fly in the fso?

I think valid in European theater. And would be really cool to somehow set it up to be able to rearm at said V Base. In fact Now I have an idea for a wishlist item. Remember the OLD V-base with 3 hangers? Maybe set it up to have a small V-Base (the old V-base) to have a rearm pad and have a large V-base (the one we have now with no rearm pad) and incorporate them into all of the maps... Sort of like we have small, medium, & large airbases. Something to the effect anyways...

i agree slipknot, i wish we could rearm at vbases, it could change the whole dynamics of the game!

Not for the better, IMO.

seems to me, the only way to find out, is to try...
-
It's a bit of a craptastic idea.
-
I posted it in the wishlist forums for some feedback.
Seems the concern (at least in the MAs) is in TT and bases on maps known for good tank battles the bomb****s would ruin the fun. I understand that and have to agree.
But... ...for FSO... ...maybe???

FSO has a lot more of a realistic simulation of WW2 combat than the MAs. I don't consider them in the same league with each other, really. In that respect, it breaks realism all the more if you are playing a jury-rigged setup that has fighters and/or bombers rolling from V-fields. It honestly can't be that hard to find a base somewhere inside 50 miles of what you want. It doesn't matter if it's a little further back, because you're not in the MA. You don't need instant gratification. You don't WANT to die in the first 5 minutes of an FSO because you can't respawn.
My comment was entirely based on FSO use, and not relating to previous discussions regarding its use in the MAs.
Just FYI.

I have no problem with launching from V bases. The challege is landing at a V base when damaged, pilot wounded or out of fuel. Re-arming there would be nice, but that may be going a bit too far.
