Title: Collisions - scoring
Post by: texasfighter on September 01, 2013, 07:30:53 AM
I know collisions has been addressed before. I tried to find a thread that addressed how collisions are scored but only found a really old one from 2002. Yesterday I had a second merge with a P51D (ef) in which I hit him multiple times before we collided. I hit him first in the cockpit and second in the engine. Just before we collided I also hit his tail section and apparently at least one ping on his wing. I lost half my right wing and had to fly all the way back to nearest base to land which I did with some coaching. I never got any kill or assist so I assumed he landed his plane. When I reviewed the film I discovered that he crashed not long after the collision. He was pilot wounded and had a smoking engine and going about 400 when he hit the ground. Long after that I landed my damaged plane back at our base. Why did I receive no kill or assist? Does a collision negate any hits you may have made no matter how serious?

Something similar happened to me recently and a few times in the past.

I was attacking B29s that were over our strats and got hits on all 3 bombers.

During one attack they seemed to go into slow motion which caused me to collide with them. Then they flew on for a bit and disappeared with no message.

I assumed they were disconnected and they never re-appeared. No messages were ever received.

Texasfighter, could it be that I've met the same opponent yesterday evening, although our timezones might be half a day from each other based on your nick. There was quite lot of action over A41. A fellow Rook typed about a certain P51 colliding with him. Half a minute later I collided with the same guy, this time him seemingly being in a N1K. And while I tried to grab alt before running out of oil this same guy landed two kills in a Spit which was noted on green. Either the guy was a quick upper, changing planes every time and getting two proxies while on the runway or... No names until HTC asks privately via e-mail. I've done my share of defending a field with a furball at the end of the runway...

Film sent in.

Unfortunately I did not note the number of the field. This was an enemy field that was northwest of a port. I had to fly back to a airfield that was south of the enemy field. In the future if there is anything funny going on, I will note the nearest field name in the file name. Because I believe there is no way to see the map in the film, even if you looked at it while in flight. Am I correct in that?

Yes, we can't see the map when viewing the film . But HTC can see map and coordinates of your position.

And to answer an earlier question: No, collisions have no impact on scoring, they don't change anything. They are just a different way to get damaged. However, damage due to a collision is not a 'ping' for kill credit purpose - if someone only gets damaged by colliding with you with no other it's on him by your guns, you won't get a kill credit if he dies outside proxy range.

But what actually happened in this specific sortie... I think HTC will tell you

Or not...  I have sent stuff in, and got a "thanks for your submission" type of answer.
