Title: Just a thought
Post by: wpeters on September 03, 2013, 02:37:58 PM
The threads seem to be showing quite a argument on which plane qualifies for service in aces high. :furious

Maybe HTC needs to consider a post war arena that would include some of the aircraft from the post war. A lot of the planes that we argue about test bed or experimental or never actually saw service.

This would be simple to do.  Use all aircraft and vehicles  and maps from the MA now and  add any Post War aircraft. Say anything built up to the year of 1947...   Any later than that would be Korean war... Which if you want that would be a way of getting more subscriptions.  But would mostly be jet vs jet. :x

Here is a list that could be included in the Post War Arena:

P-63
K14
K6
F8f Bearcat
P-80
Meotor
CA-19A
P-51 H or whatever the real fast one was called. :rock
There are numerous more that could be included.

It would be fun to see a spit 5 battling a F8f :x

Just food for thought. :x

P.S. Skuzzy I didn't know were to put this.

If you were to see this, it would most likely just be two squad-mates or shade-killers shooting each other to farm perks.

While definitely a fun idea, this would be a big allocation of resources from HTC to build another low-pop arena ideal for perk farming, especially with the wider ENY differential this could present.

Unless HTC first does something like having separate perks for each arena...  (Hello? Is this thing on?)

I think it would become as popular as the late war

only for the "we needz moar jetz!!!" console dweebs...and just adding the historically correct aircraft would never be enough.

....and they said the same think about WWI arena too.

I think WWI is mainly hampered by:

1) The complete and utter domination of the Dr.I. The thing seriously needs to be perked.
2) Only having four aircraft, and missing major series such as the SPAD, Albatros and Nieuport. Tie that in with the domination of the Dr.I and it leads to fairly stagnant gameplay.
3) That there's nothing actually driving fights. The Mains are ultimately driven by the base capture mechanics. People go where the fight is, and the fight is driven by base capture.

Add some more aircraft (the SPAD especially would offer a change of pace, being closer to a pure E-fighter/BnZ aircraft than anything else in the arena. And ESPECIALLY add some less overpowering German rides). Perk the Dr.I. And develop some sort of objective to drive fights and WWI I think will start to perk up.

Oh I agree 100% but look at it this way. Would the player base be happy with HTC spending the next 6 months to a year adding a couple of planes and a base capture element to WWI while IGNORING anything else in the main arenas? I don't think so.

While I appreciate that Hitech wants to keep his company small and all the work in house, sometimes I think another half dozen workers wouldn't really be all that bad to have.

I'd totally submit my resume today for a job as a 3D modeler if he wants to open an office in St. Louis.

Frankly I don't think it would take anywhere near as long as you think it would to transfer some of the LW game mechanics to WWI.

Wonder about vice-versa. I'd love to have the more detailed damage model from WWI in the other arenas. Which I thought was the plan to begin with.  :headscratch:

Maybe not, but you have to figure 3-6 months for each plane. Spec research, wire frame modeling, art work inside and out. Adding 3 new planes to WWI would take a year by it's self.

So there's some other process they use in the LWMA?  I ask because they've added far more than three planes over the past year not to mention updating others and adding a ton of GV's, adding graphic features, fixing bugs, etc., etc., etc..

Saxman: We *have* a more detailed damage model than before. It has more elements on any given wing or fuselage that can be damaged without catastrophic loss. It will never resemble the WW1 arena, though. Those are unique to the design and materials used in WW1 aircraft, and do not apply to WW2 aircraft.

Per HTC comment, that kind of damage is only for WW1, and won't be seen in the main arenas.
