...but I'm as good once as I ever was. Or at least that's what Toby Keith said a few years ago. After playing for a few hours Monday night, I came to a realization similar to this. Ever since I started college in August of 2010, and even before that, my time online has greatly diminished...along with what little "skill" I had acquired after playing this game several hours every day after signing up in March of 2007. With every return I make after taking a month or longer hiatus, I find that I enjoy the game more now than I ever did. I was never a really great stick, but I could hold my own in most situations, but, like I said, I spent several hours wasting away my high school years with my eyes glued to a computer screen. Now, whenever I get online, I enjoy the simple things like flying with the many friends I have made throughout the years. I jump from country to country depending who is online and whatnot, and from there I spend more time watermelon chatting and dying than actually trying to get a kill.
I guess the point of this post is this: whenever you feel annoyed with the game, the players, or whatever, take a break. A good long break will help you get your priorities in line in terms of the game. Learn to enjoy the friends and fellowship you have gained throughout the years. Or, if you're ever online and see me on, hit me up and I'd me more than happy to wing, chat, or do some stupid nonsense that's a waste of resources for winning the war :D.

Banshee I've been saying that all along, I am glad you found out yourself ol friend. Don't worry about the skills lost, it actually comes back - I've quit a half dozen times over the years and always come back slightly better because of the more knowledge I gained.
Flying along the friendly sky is the most fun :)

I usually quit after losing multiple 262's in a row. Like yesterday, I lost 3 262's due to my lame roommates.
When you come back you do come back a little more chill about the game everytime though. Welcome Back. :cheers:

In all seriousness, I do find walking away from AH for a few weeks or months helps. Assuming one can actually walk away from this virtualized crackpipe for any length of time....

That's harsh and not completely true.
I've probably flown everything in this game at one time or another....including your vaunted German Iron. I flew the Dora excusively for my first two years in AH...and not just to pick.
In my experience it's far less the plane and far more the pilot. Sadly, I've just reached my limits...age and limited playing time due to the real world do that. But it's OK, I still have fun! :aok

SUCK IT UP and play the best you can.
My CH setup is 10 years old and I can't keep calibration.
My ping jumps from 40- 120...sometimes into the 300's.
From 2011 to mid 2013 I got booted once an hour.
Somehow I manage to kill more guys in less time than anyone in my squad and never lost the love for killing ack with lead & rockets.

you are absolutely correct :aok
I see it as a sliding scale....
the closer 2 people are in skill level the more the plane differences count...the further away the less it matters...
IE a noob in a KI84 is still gonna lose to a fighting vet in a spit1. ( I say "fighting" vet because sadly there are many "vets" who have no clue as to how to fight...sure they can tell you the names of all the ACM but they have absolutely no clue how to implement them.)

I used to be an avid flyer in Warbirds 2.77 and III back from 1999-2004. I quit in 04 due to frustration and then life, a divorce, a move, a new woman, and a return to school myself got in the way for 9 years. I am 5 classes away from my Master's Degree from ERAU so I am testing the waters between these competing platforms and I will be coming to AH or back to IEN Total Sims depending on which one satisfies the fix more.
But I could not agree with you more. Flying online sims, just like real world flying is something you have to stay current on. If you don't use it ... you do, indeed, lose it.

But something I found interesting, which resulted in this post, was that I may have lost some "skill," but I gained a new level of comradery and companionship. I find the game to be much more enjoyable in the few hours I get to log in a month compared to when I played everyday.

Incidentally, over at IEN, I was known and the Red Ghost because I was elusive on the ground while tanking in Armoured Assault and in the air flying Mossie bombers in Warbirds. My handle over there was and still is .... Banshee. :x

This past week i also had a couple great fights vs 2Dizzy in my A8 vs his YakT (i believe) to the point where we both rtb'd cuz we were out of fuel or ammo.

I'm a "vet" and I've been flying a Spit I and I've been shot down by many noobs. I don't care who you are you won't win when the odds get stacked ridiculously high against you. At that point you're just another loser. Another funny thing is that it's often other "vets" getting the kills on me while hiding in the safety of their horde.

I was talking a straight up 1vs1 taking a spit1 into MA is not what I was talking about....that is like......a bee trying to dissuade a bear from its honey.
you take any of those noobs to DA and give him a 16 you take the 1....what are your chances?
and ya I know all about the "vets" in this game....why do you think you barely see me on now a days?
game itself still kicks ass....the player base...thats a whole different story.
