I get in 88mm one time it's set at 1.5 I get in a different one it says 12 I'm on a laptop and was told that if I press c and v it will adjust the range so my rounds don't either pass the target or explode before it..but c and v doesn't do anything..any ideas? Thank you..

C & V increase/decrease the 88 range on my desktop keyboard...not sure why they wouldn't do the same with a laptop. Maybe assigning those keystrokes to your j-stick may do the trick?

1.5k is the shortest range that you can have in the 88. 12k being the longest. C makes the range closer, V longer. The fun part of being in the 88 is guessing where the target will be when your round explodes. I can give tips if you would like, I am fairly accurate with it. :angel:

For the life of me I'll never know why they didnt model the 90mm gun with proximity fuses. At least then you'd have a chance to actually kill something. The 88mm is useless.

It isn't useless. But it is underpowered. With the proximity fuses (5inch guns), the round explodes within the 'kill zone' range of the target. Most of the time ensuring a 1 shot 1 kill. With the 88, YOU are the proximity fuse and must determine where the target will be when the round explodes. Which makes it challenging, and more rewarding when you get the kill. However, I do wish that the 88 would do some more damage, I wonder if Lusche know what the damage of the 88 is?
As for tips.
I picture how my target is flying, what they see. I try and determine their speed and what angle the plane is flying at. Speed is the key. Once you get a fair estimate on their speed, you won't miss. As a simple example (that many fall to), if a plane is diving on a base to take out radar. If they are going less than 325 mph then you can set your 88mm round to explode at 1.5k and fire when they reach 1.8k However, if they are going 380mph+ then fire at 1.9k , otherwise your round will explode too soon and do no damage.
If you would like a more.. elaborate description PM me. I would be happy to give you a few tips and stuff, if you want wouldn't mind going to the TA and demonstrating.

The HE damage of the 88mm HE is 234 lbs. ;) Remember, the damage dealt to a OBJ is different than to a player controlled vehicle or plane. I'm not sure how we'd actually measure the HE damage of the 88mm AA puffy ack, really. Just know when it is close enough it will rip your plane to pieces.
I'm not so sure there is much tweaking needed to the 88mm AA guns. The best luck I've had is getting in to the gun and launching as many rounds as possible up to 15,000 ft (5.0k), making a nice visual target for when the bombers come into icon range. Once you have the visual of your own puffy ack, and know what the incoming aircraft is, it is much easier to adjust fire and lead the target appropriately. More than once I've been able to damage and actually shoot down bombers as they fly over a field regardless of altitude. I think the sooner a person can get the gun turned in the direction of the incoming aircraft, send up some "marking" rounds to 12k to 15k up, blanket the sky with some puffy ack, and then adjust from there once the icon ID's itself. Most bombers just try and stay 1k to 1.5k ahead of them.
Once you get the knack down you'll either get some salutes of some cuss words from your target. :aok

One other thing worth mentioning. Many, many laptops have custom scan codes assigned to the keys. Those keys will not be recognized by the game, unless you use the "Fix Key" button in Options->Controls->Map Keys.

You might want to check what mode you are in when you get in a gun. If mode 1 you may find C and V are mapped to left and right toe brakes for aircraft.
For what its worth I mapped my keyboard R key to switch to mode 2 (R for range!) so when I get in a gun I hit R to switch from the default mode 1 to mode 2 (usually the default for vehicles). Then in mode 2 I mapped my throttle axis to range. I had to invert the axis so forward throttle gave me long range and back throttle to shorter range. This means that in either a field gun or tank I set range with the throttle axis.
(I use my toe brakes in a vehicle to act as accelerator and brake and steer with the pedals yaw)

well that didn't work lol I put my self in Manuel mode 1,2 and 3 on clipboard and even put the adjusTment on my joystick and couldn't get my base 88 to adJust distance I even copied mode 2 and 3 from one on clipboard my saitek x52 pro joystick doesn't do anything when I change modes on it either I guess I'll just stay out of the 88 lol thanks anyways :salute :bhead

Food for thought regarding manned ack. I went to the practice arena, manned an 88, and collected some range data. I measured drop on my screen for the shell at 3 angles: 25, 45, 75, for distances from 1.5k out to 9k. I took that info, and using different color ink, made up a range card on the back of business card. I tried that out, and knocked down two lancs at 8k on their approach, and got the 3rd smoking at 5k past his target (i got the three kills even though someone else finished the 3rd smoker off, which if you ask me is wrong: that pilot should have been credited with that 3rd kill). But the card was getting in the way, so I took a clear plastic report cover, and wrote the info and tick marks on the clear plastic. I tape that to the screen when I'm manning 88 ack. It's not fool proof, but knowing where the round will pop does get me on target in fewer shots than shooting with just windage. I haven't had any luck yet shooting with the barrel slewing. The hits have come when I've ranged out the path and let the bomber fly into the ack field.

Good idea but I have to wait till they get with in 1.5 cause that's what the ack is set at most of the time lol
