Title: Finding GV fights quicker
Post by: Rich46yo on September 10, 2013, 02:20:49 PM
I started GV'ing a little, lots of fun actually, and wish there was a quicker way to find action. Yeah I know towns flicker but you can waste a lot of time rolling around in a GV looking for a fight. Some type of way to find GV action would be a wise addition I think.

I usually ask on country channel where the gv fight is.

At the risk of diverging from your OP, I will say this.  As you probably know, finding good GV fights isn't easy.  Firstly, it depends on what you want.  I see 2 major modes of GVing, which are (1) base capture, and (2) GV "furballing".

Although I don't really prefer it, base capture can be done on any map.  The problem is that in most cases, you will be at the mercy of ground attack aircraft, since they are most motivated to kill you when you are threatening a base, and if it's an air base, they are right there already.  So your role as a GV may degenerate into playing the role of lemming / helpless victim to the attack AC.  If your side has numbers, it can lead to survivable GVing, but that is problematic.

My favorite type of GVing is what I call GV "furballing", which is GV combat for its own sake, preferably on interesting terrain.  A good example of this is on OzKansas tank town, when the center of tank town island is still in play, with all 3 countries still present.  It gives you the chance to pit your wits and skills against other GVs, both in maneuver and in shooting, analogously to what goes on in an air-to-air furball.  So for example if the perk tank is dominating the battle from your front, maybe you can move to that hill off to the side and hit him from the flank.  This type of fight is the hardest to find, as the game isn't currently designed to encourage this style of play.  (Honestly, I don't think that HTC "gets this" yet, or maybe they don't feel it's important).  This type of GVing is usually found where you can spawn to the vicinity of a GV base, and where there are no ground attack aircraft (or they are kept too busy by other aircraft to attack GVs).  So you either need a tank town, or chains of GV bases relatively inaccessible to AC.  There are a few places on about half the maps where such combat can be found.

my favorite is the the current map, down in the south west corner of the map. Can't remember the map or specific base, but it produces some of the best fights I've seen in the game, bar none.

The pizza map also has some great battles. Actually just about every GV spawn is located right next to a spawn from a different base, so as long as the other base is enemy, instant GV action.

Trinity had GV'ing that was second only to the tank town on ozkansas. It also had GV'ing to fit just about every tankers wants. Of course there was the 135 spawn camp. Good fun if your on the right side. I racked up 70+ kills numerous times. But the real fun on that map was the battle in the Valley between 83 and 28 I believe. Both sides spawned into a fairly narrow valley with a huge hole between the spawns. On the East side of the valley you could get through without having to drive through the hole and get into some close quarters battles. The M18 was deadly out there. On the West side you had the huge hole and tanks would sit on the ridge on either side and try to pick each other off. Then there was the rarely used tank town. I was involved with several battles out there with up to 15-20 guys. Usually me and wet would get it started and more would show up.

In the end this is really just a shameless plug to get trinity back  :aok

Nothing (-bringing it back), will replicate the old TT for all-out tank battles :aok
Some fights there would be a hundred people (all 3 countries) battling it out.
Was truly the best tank fighting.

I usually ask on country channel where the gv fight is.

Ya, I do that and get a response about 1/2 the time.

GV'ing has changed my attitudes towards bomb tarding quite a bit. Not that I was a huge bomb****, I bet 95% of the GVs Ive killed ave been kilt with cannon and even then only around air bases. But I will bomb them now only if we have an organized attack going to capture the base. I also wont bomb a VH just to bomb it. Again we need and organized attack going to do so. Actually for the most part I'll be leaving GVs alone from the air, again unless we are in danger of losing or gaining a base.

Last night VHs were bombed for no good reason and killed a few GV fights. I can at least control the way "I" play the game so I give GV'ers "their" game to play. I wish I was a GV'er back in the day we had those huge GV fights but I just never got into it back then.

There are still quite a few GV fights going on, it simply depends where and what map. As for bomb****ing its just a fact if you are going to tank you eventually will get bombed. The other night I found out the hard way when I killed a Panther trying to attack a base sure enough it didn't take 1 minute later till a P47 show up to blast me away heh. We had about 15 tanks on defense and the Rooks were attacking and had about 10 GVS and 10 or so aircraft hitting the V-base.

That was this weekend, you simply have to be at the right spot and right time, but good fights still go on.
