You have to admit it, like it or not, Aces High is all about tanks now. When the Greebo map cycles through everyone, and I mean everyone, is in TT. Fields are captured now with the venerable M3, and not the goon. Oh, there are exceptions, but that's the gist of it. Every time a general calls out for a mission, his pleas for help are quickly followed by "fifty-five of team X are in TT tanks. Whoa is me!" and then threatens to quit all while lamenting the loss of air combat and true flight simulation. And it makes sense that AH should have tanks, but it is still not complete. AH needs infantry. Why? Because boots on the ground are the ultimate triumph of air power! Yes, the game will have to change even more, in order to embrace the presence of infantry. Also, it's true that the tears and whines will continue to flow as that change comes about. That is the price of evolution after all; evolution and progress always make people uncomfortable.
You know this to be true, because every time TT is captured by the villainous enemy it splits the opposing countries down the middle between fliers and tankers.
Are airplanes finished? Is the furball dead? No, not as long as one breath of air remains to be had for the sim. Propeller-heads will keep the genre alive for us, don't you worry. But don't hate on the tankers, because they help to support our sim as much as we help to support theirs. Aces High really is the best tank game out there, as much as people hate on it. There are still problems, but I also see a lack of posts in the bugs forum reporting them. Why? It couldn't be because furballers scare off the tankers is it? Yes, I think so. So, back off furballers! Accept your GV brethren, so that we may embrace the richer combat environment!
Bring on the infantry! Give us the FPS!

I agree and Disagree on alot of this Post Yes Ace's High is supposed to be an All out Air Sim Game but over the years they have reached out to hit all are's Gv's Fighter's and Bomber's yes number's are declining but alot of the same people are here and will always be here. The thing I like about this Game HTC lets their Players Make map's and skin for vehicles that are in the Game Map making takes alot of hour's to accomplish and if your have the talent to make them Great. But it Seems like the Same Ol Complaint Each time and no one is ever happy this country furball's to much this country tanks to much and this Country Horde to much when will it come to an end Does HTC have to add a 4th Country to level the Playing Field's????? We have an arena set for a 2 Country War Front no One ever goe's their cause they like the Icon's to much and are afraid to try new things we have Special event's Set up IE Snapshot,FSO and TDI but then again it is the icon thing people are afraid of to Explore......
Alot of People Expect a Fast Paced Game where Fights are always there... I am sorry to rant but this stuff is getting Old Take this Map out and keep this Map in we do not want to do this or do that........ Object of the game is to Win the War granbted a Country is better of doing this then other's.
My Question as a Player and not a CM why do we need to see the Same Complaint's Day in and Day Out?????? I thinnk HTC is trying to make the best of their game and doing major upgrades to catch up with the Rest,,,,,But at least I can Say this Game is not Arcadish like the new games out there.
Just my 2 Cent's

Bringing in infantry or making AH a FPS would totally ruin the game. That's just my opinion. It would lose the essence of what it has always had & just become another cookie cutter game. I know if AH ever becomes an infantry FPS I'm done playing, but that's just me. I've been playing AH for almost 10 years because I like the way it is designed. If I am in the mood to play a FPS, I have other games to satisfy those nights. These are just my feelings on the matter. :salute

That right there what you said? Is exactly why I posted. People always jump in to comment mode before they even stop to think about what it really means. Hitech probably would not allow true infantry, but in some respects a user controlled drunk to capture a field would be better than what we have now. Plus, where one-on-one hand-to-hand probably is not needed, GV support of infantry aspects could make the game very much more interesting.
Dismissing progress out of hand is not helping.

I enjoy the GV game but would not subscribe just for tanks and would rather see new development go to the air game. Greebo made a great TT for sure and I usually head straight there when his map comes up.
-
Ive almost never GV'ed in my years in this game but find myself having a fine time doing it in this map.
-
as a dedicated GVer, I never fight in the 'tank towns'. it's a 2-D furball. I didn't do furballs when i flew.

When I see the "greebo" map, it makes me want to find the Enola Gay and nuke TT.

It's a great map. I suck in a tank, but I enjoyed rolling a M-16 or 2 out to support the green guys. I actually laughed when I heard a tank roll in next to me, assumed it was friendly, and ignored it until I started taking pintle fire. My first thought was that it was a friendly just messing around; then I noticed there was no name above the tank. Uh oh!
Tower.
I came back with a flight of KI-67's to tease the fighters and maybe get lucky with a random bomb drop. Since I can't see tanks from 21k I was about to drop where I thought the spawn was when I hear a pair of my planes go boom. Waffen in his Mosquito on my six. I got a few pings and begin evasive maneuvers while retreating back to friendly airspace. A squad-mate was finally able to climb to alt and took care of Waffen. Flying back I decided to land on top of the 16k+ mountain to enjoy the view, drink a beer, take a leak, etc.
For some reason I started film at this point, I had rolled to the very edge of the cliff so takeoff was about 5' before going nose down vertical for a few thousand feet. Pulled back and climbed up to clear the hill and upon reaching the summit, I ran out of fuel. The next 5 min consisted of a glider going through the mountains and valleys, sometimes with gear down and bouncing to the next ravine, sometimes inverted with a few thousand feet below.
All in all, had a great time all due to the tanks.

At least you would be in a plane. :devil

I think when Hitech said he wanted a public use soldier mesh and rigging that he was looking to create downed pilots that do more than walk around with a stiff arm holding a .45 Colt.
I was hoping that a little active talk might cause him to let us know more precisely what he wants. I would love to see troops available as users that climb into an M3 as maybe a mission type scenario to be trucked into the town. And if that's going to cost us a few people, well there's a cost for everything you know?
:devil

Personally I wouldn't care so much as long as it brought in more players. Eventually those foot sloggers would get bored, up a plane and die under my guns like the dogs they are. MUHAHHAHHAH!
I for one welcome our new infantry overlords... :lol :aok

Some of the the Flyboys have brought this upon themselves. :old:
Yesterday a perfect example: So the Flyboys of a country sweep in and kill all the Hangers at a base as they try to capture it. A stunning defense engages the enemy with most having to fly in from a neighboring base. When this resistance is encountered what did the Flyboys do? Match and defeat the defenders? NO they upped and attack another undefended base.
I guess some Flyboys would rather fight Hangers than other players. Wait I know where Players will stand and fight, unafraid to mix it up, on the ground. :salute GVers

You kinda beat me to what I was going to say.
You can change the game, all you want to.
It won't change the players.

I have nothing but respect for my GVing cousins....I personally just don't have any interest in it. But that doesn't mean I oppose expanding the game. It's not a new concept...look where Spectrum Holobyte was planning to go with it's "Electronic Battlefield" series, or where Eagle Dynamics IS going with DCS World. It's just a matter of time. I think a more realistic version of Battlefield 1942 would be a blast.
Now if we just expanded the naval game a bit...say add subs and small, non-CV task forces, expand the ship types for some surface to surface engagements....WOOOWHO!*
*I'm secretly a WWI naval history buff and feel the "aeroplane" ruined naval warfare. Damn you, Billy Mitchell!!!!! :old: :D

If you have determined that the reason that arena is empty because of the no icons as you say, why do we insist on having them off? FYI, accusing us of being afraid to try something new is not going to bring us in. I have tried it, I don't like it but I don;t mind it enough for it to keep me away. However, given a choice of getting picked by planes I cant see or getting into a fight because I did see the plane sneaking up on me I make take the second choice. I don;t like playing hide and seek anymore.
What keeps me away in combination with the above is this. I log in, no one in the AvA I go to the MA. I log in, no one in the AvA I go to the MA. I log in two guys in the AvA. I join them. Oh look, they are on the same country bombing the VH. Kill them they go to a different field, I go to the MA.
People go where they see other people so the empty arena will stay empty until some people go in it and draw others. After that you have to keep them there and if icons is what they like well, give it to them. How many years has that place been empty? Little insults will not do it either :old:

Leave the tankers alone! :furious
:rofl
Seriously, I don't have the awesome long range sniping ability that a lot of guys have to be able to land dozens upon dozens of kills, and every time I up a perk tank I get killed almost immediately but luckily there's a whole world of opportunity for other types of GVing. Last night was a HOOT in TT, I think I made over 250 gv perks killing panzers, M4s and Hetzers with an M3 75mm gun carriage, racing through their spawn from the rear, shooting them in the butts at point blank range, and scooting out the other side, hopefully before they respawned and killed me! I think I got an entire armored division of M3s killed, but damm it was fun! One time even managed to get three in one pass!
Give something different a try... There's more to GVing than spawn camping....

Recently the long running spaceship MMO EvE Online released a FPS intended to interact with the universe they have created. It wasn't a bad game but it wasn't the best either and it isn't doing especially well because FPS players tend not to wait for patches, fixes, and rebalancing when they can just go back to Modern Warfare, Battlefield, or any number of other well established shooters. My personal opinion is that the big names have that market cornered and unless you come out with something really amazing it's probably not going to go far. Sure there are other things that HTC could add to the game that would improve it, but I think it would be a waste of resources to go down the FPS road.

The GV'ers are good about calling out a six, finding the Flaker and blowing it up. When you get good team work going between the GV and a heavy fighter or A20 like bird, it is great fun.
I got irritated with red GVs last week when they camp out in the hangers and shot spanning fighters in the hanger and on the runway. Still, the GV'ers are a good part of the game.
And what the guys that bring supplies into the town when it gets hit hard. Not much glory in that but they still do it. :salute

Less likely than FPS for the same reason Ranger gave. There are already
deeply detailed and immersive submarine games available that would tax
AHII to death (literally) if such modeling were to be attempted. There is
such a thing as too much.
I'd go as far as some additional AI drunk functions but seeing historical
plane gaps filled would be better.

I think we just need to think about it a little. Maybe just get soldiers with the bazooka and the German equivalent.
1 Spawn into gv spawn on a German bmw with side car. :rock
2 Spawn in and run around like a pilot.
3 Bazooka range of 500 meters. :devil
Think about it guys that would add a new diminsion,. A whole set of different infantry is not nessesary at first. Lets just try on type.. If we like maybe start adding snipers then what ever else... But dont try adding all at once. would take to much time. Maybe this could happen in AH3.. :airplane:
By the way I LOVE TT in the CRATER MAP :bolt:

Did I miss a new update? :headscratch:

Every once in a while I'm on when a map coincides, where I can participate in this kind of play. I don't use a bomb truck though, I like the Ju87G2... it is much harder than bombing. I like to help out Dr7 and a few other when the situation allows.
I think that the Ju87G2 should be allowed to up from the same GV hanger as the Fi. The Ju87G2 was an extremely close air support plane. Allowing it to up at GV bases would allow the Air guys to participate around the GV's <not bomb tarding them> when the map does not allow for a GV spawn into an airport. Allowing the GV's to just go off and blast each other for hours and days out of the same spawn just keeps the Air and GV guys apart spliting the players.
Last nite I saw Greebos map when I logged in and logged off. Had I been allowed to fly the Ju87G2 at TT, I might of stayed and played.

Sometimes that attack you are referring to is meant to draw heat off a friendly base that is under siege with no intent of capturing a base. The intent being is to draw attackers off the base under siege.

Aces High has the best simulation and ability to use tactics that were used in a sandbox environment.
They still have to update many things in the planes and GV category, not to mention fixing our titanium trees and cement-like water :devil .
However, I am slightly... edgy on the FPS that is being asked here. In BF3 when you take a Tank it doesn't take long to find combat, because the arena is smaller than in aces high. The tanks 'respawn' and the only downside for the player, is they have to wait 7 seconds and they are back in the game.
Here in aces high, the environment is quite large, sometimes taking an hour or more to reach combat. Why would you want some nooblet (or jerk) to grab a "anti-tank weapon" and kill your perked vehicle?
Even with the skills of HTC it would take years for them to make a decent quality FPS that would be able to effectively interact with the tanks and planes we have now. It would further isolate our lesser-quality-computer brethren for there would be more information for the players' computers to process. Not to mention the costs of the hardware that HTC would have to purchase to be able to run such a game.
While I like the concept of being able to jump out of a C47 parachute down and fight in FPS perspective for the maproom. I can't see it happening within the next 5 years. At the very least, not on BF3 or even COD quality..
HTC has too much they have to update, from adding new planes and tanks, to polishing the current ones to the "upgrade da graphicz" issues. Not to mention adding submarines and player controllable battleships... :D
And also, what about the impact on players. (Like I mentioned before with the anti-tank weapon to your perked tank (and/or plane ) ). It would further 'isolate' the GVers, the furballers, and add a new category.. the FPSers.
I would rather wait a few more years (or however long), to ensure that what we have now is polished and done correctly. Then, HTC can work on a FPS aspect of the game.
Just my thoughts.

Anything that gives you more options as to what to do in the game and, hopefully, draw or retain more players is good.
I'm not an FPS guy but some simplified version of it would be ok. To me not playing those games even the most rudimentary implementation would likely entertain me. Maybe when you take an M3 with troops you jump out and lead your men to the maproom or run to intercept incoming troops (another player and his AI guys). What I'm saying is it doesn't have to be real complex to fill a gap in AH as a WWII game. The bazooka idea was interesting. FPS elements would also allow other gaps to be filled that currently don't make sense like artillary.
Along the same lines I'd like to see Naval warefare expanded. There have been wishes for other player controlled ships (destroyers, etc,), subs, battleships, suppy fleets and others ideas that I'd support.
HT himself has posted in the past that he'd like to add subs and fps.
