I have similar issues lately, with a very consistant pattern:
At US mornings (noon here), all is fine, pings as usual no connection losses. In the US afternoon (my evening) the trouble starts, ping times on the login screen start to go up, and the occasionall disco happens.
AT US prime time (very late nighjt over here), I have a lot of troubles, login screen ping 200 instead of 150, intermittent variance issues and repeated discoing.
Running ping plots at various times unveiled a lot of packet loss on the last few hops before the AH server, in the verizon network part. For example:
(FYI, while the plot below shows a ping time of 154 to the LW MA, the in game ping at login is given as 200).

Yes, there are a lot of problems in the U.S., at the moment due to the extremely bad weather in the middle of the U.S.. Collges have also all started back up and this always causes a massive surge in usage, which will settle in down in a couple of weeks.
Then we have the all the drama with the middle east causing Internet usage to surge as well.
A perfect storm.
