Note: This is an idea. But nevertheless I am still putting my flame suit on  :devil

I was thinking that for tanks that if they have their engine off, that they show no icon until 400 yards. However, as a penalty for this. When their engine is off their turret turn speed is reduced to 30-50% (I recall reading in posts long buried, that SOME tanks' turret speed was drastically reduced when their engines were off).

When their engine is on, their turret speed is increased back to 100% (as it is now). Icon goes back to normal (what is it? 1k-1.5k?)

As for wirbles/osti/m16 I was thinking something similar. Except the icon would only go down to 600 yards at the very least. (So planes at least have a chance)!

 I don't know how HTC could balance that out  :headscratch: But hey, it's a thought.

It would at least address the camouflage issue with tanks, and help them with *ahem* "Bomb t a r d s".

And if the vehicles are parked or in a building, they could simply shut off their engine and "poof" no icon until 400 (600 for wirbles/osti/m16). 


Alright, I think that is about all I can think of before I go to bed.  So..

It is not true that all tanks need engines to turn their turrets. In fact, because there are cupolas (and turrents: not a misspelling of 'turrets') it is not a requirement at all.

Using "Bombt****" as a term really degrades your argument. I mean, even coombz uses that!

Do you honestly think you'll be able to hear a Panzer's 295 hp engine from 1000ft up, when you've got your own 1500 hp engine roaring away, and wind blowing past your canopy at 300mph?

He didn't say they wouldn't turn. He said they would turn slower.

I doubt the engine can really skew your vision of the tank itself. On or not.


However hiding under a tree or house is a different story.



I like the turret idea though, it'll slow some of the spawn camping.

 :aok  on slow turret. As a bomb****er, I'm amazed how fast those turrets turn and shoot me down. I use the firing rounds from a tank to locate it, then drop on it. Many times I've been main gunned while dropping and wondered how that turret turned so fast.

No, but it would assist with spawn camping. If you want that edge if not being spotted immediately, you take the penalty of slower turning speed.  I know some tanks had that problem and others didn't. I don't know how HTC could balance it out for those who didn't.
But if the tank wanted to have a better chance at hiding all they would have to do is turn off their engine! While I understand you wouldn't be able to hear that engine with the criteria you said. It would at least give them some camouflage that GVers have been asking for.

Or.. HTC could reprogram trees/buildings that if you are within a certain range of them that your icon is shortened (or if in a building, then it drops even further).

But like I said before. It was just an idea, no need to get all nasty about it :)

Not in favour of the icon variation but this engine off traverse rate should be modeled IMO.
