I got an invite from OM last night to go try the AvA. So, I loaded whine tape #3 and #7 and went over. I was asked to up and kill some buffs from a staged mission. Great, I got the right tapes loaded I thought :lol
So, upped a P40 and went after them. I line up behind one of them, kill number one. Same for the second one. Boooooring and getting ready for the third one but I start seeing tracers over my head. I look back and see a zero. Start turning to try and get a shot in but can't. At this point I think I am fighting OM cause I cant shake the zero of my six. Finally I get a message from OM saying he was staying out because I had three on me. Staying out? three? Who am I fighting? I thought I was fighting OM but it was the AI. So, what followed was a 5 minute fight with the zeros until I hit the water. Fun fight and they don;t talk back when I call them gang tards :rofl
we tried the mission again and this time the buffs got me on my second pass. Apparently someone forgot to tell me that on the previous run they were out of ammo :furious and that they had implemented 999s gunnery.
Over all it was great fun with fighting the AI. The only clue I had that it may not be a human was that they did not spray but maybe they were also low on ammo when I got to them. I don;t know what the plan is but if these missions could run while players are in the arena at random times or if they could put some AI fighters out it has the potential of being great fun.
Another use could be when you get bored of not having any fights in the MA, just jump in and fight the escorts. It would also be great practice for learning to fight multiples Vs one and no ones ego would ever get hurt. Oh, you can call the AI any name it does not mind :D
I did not get to play my tapes last night so here you go. ICONS :furious I could barely see the fighters with my graphics settings. :D
Great fun and I think they are on to something in there <S>

lol, now we need the ai to talk smack....
-
Thanks Dedalos.
I believe there is an HTC plan for the ability to load a stack of missions to automatically kick off every half hour or hour or what not. Until that time we are working on missions that have briefings etc, but they will have to be started by a CM.
Also looking into a way to use what we have now to have some near constant AI presence in the arena.
One of the fun experiences I had was getting shot down by an AI only to get the message that it was a player who shot me down. LOL kind of cool that you never know what you might run into up there.
When I run missions on Tuesdays, I'll probably alternate icons on and off.
-
Just had an idea. Give the AI names and have them talk smack a little after they shoot you down :lol
The constant AI presence would be awesome if it was based on how many people were online at the time

Heh. Watching from my perch I was surprised how well those AI fighters fly.
Jimson and his crew have been busting their humps on working through the development of the staged mission process. Looks like they have it down pretty well now. Last night was Jaeger1's doing I believe.
Thanks for stopping in, was good to see you after all this time.

Thats fine. If they can get the missions to start on auto every so often at list you will have something to do while waiting for other players

Holly Internet Ded, you're making friends with AI now?
That's like, what, trading Prius for Segway? :furious

we were in there last night again testing out the AI. i think that HTC modeled the bombers gunners after 999000. they are frigging brutal! then you have 4 escorts jump on you at once. it gets very interesting very quickly. they will even occasionally ram and ho you, which is actually pretty funny!!
the whole thing was pretty cool. we had someone in there who i consider a top stick in the game. even he was having trouble with them. at low altitude is when you have a good chance of getting rammed, if you have 2 or more of them on you. its really pretty wild.
they compared the fighters to some of the better sticks in the game, which could be a problem for some of the newer people, but still alot of fun!
if you see the AVA with a few people in there, jump in. its well worth the time, and we could really use help with the testing. i promise you wont be sorry. and the AI will happily shoot you down! :aok
maybe we should have a "who's better then AI" competition? :D

Be even better if the AI smack talk and fighting style was modeled after actual in-game personas. Top it off with (poorly) disguised names e.g. "Waymid", "What", "IDie, "Snowpac", "ManObore"".
;) :D

I tried to get in last night but when I clicked in the arena ,I suddenly had rl issues and had to step away . I couldn't get back for a while . When I did , I just logged out . But I will be trying this again ! Sounds like a fun way to get in some flight time and some experience for some who don't fly to well. The good lord knows I can use some practice !! Keep it up guys !! This is what makes AH so much fun for me !!

"What a boob" is all I said to get muted and never went back to AvA arena in over 5 years now. Apparently winning in 1vs3 and watching someone cry "Hoer" on 200 and making a small comment warrants it.
Also don't laugh on 200 when you win a 2vs1 because you get muted as well, then again back then I think most of JG54 was muted in ava on sight.
/I do miss the italian scenario, it was the only reason I enjoyed the AvA so much but so many bad experiences with the players I think the LWA is more tame.
Maybe we need a "Baker" AI personallity as well? ;)
Just messin' with ya, Butcher. :D :aok

AI9 is a gangtard abd AI11 is a ho pick tard. Get in a real mans plane dweebs :furious

They HO, ram, and gang more than the MA lol

All A32 does is ram me, the robot bastage. He is on my chitlist.

I've been in there twice the past few days and no one else has been in there and there's no indication of any AI flying.. Also I can't get the mission thing to work like it says on the AM. What am I doing wrong?

LOL
No way to do that though.
Por Que?
Too much PC resources?

If the first ram doesn't do the trick they will chase your butt down and ram you again.

I told you HTC would model real-MA personalities. The one you ran into appears to have been modeled after my own unique fighting style. :lol

The missions are built and they have no dynamic interface that allows them to start or enable certain numbers of AI according to arena population, etc. They just run whatever they are built with when a staff member loads and starts them.
I've been in there twice the past few days and no one else has been in there and there's no indication of any AI flying.. Also I can't get the mission thing to work like it says on the AM. What am I doing wrong?
There is no feature to auto load missions. A staff member has to load and start the mission.
The way I am getting around this is to build a very long mission with AI only. I just started to do this yesterday. The players do not have to join this kind of mission. They simply up in free flight to chase down and fight the AI.
The only problem is that a staff member has to restart the mission when it is over to keep AI constantly flying.
I had AI flying all day today but what happened this evening is another staffer wanted to load a different shorter mission once the one that was running finshed. I just a little while ago went in and restarted the long mission.
The arena message mission intructions were for the mission testing we did yesterday.
This is still in it's testing phase and we do not have enough missions built for all our setups and we don't have a schedule yet to keep the AI flying all the time.
Bear with us, we are working on it.

It certainly illustrates why we should never let the enemy have a shot at ramming. :joystick:

this sounds like an awesome direction the AVA is going, probably get better fights out of the AI then 80% of the MA :rofl
and I must say Dedalos....you friggen crack me up. :rofl :rofl :rofl

the only one left from the original JG54 from 5 years ago is me. maybe you should give it a try, as with life, things change. sometimes for the better. the AVA has been terrific, when there are people in there. now with the AI, things should get really interesting. Jimson has been working very, very hard to make it fun. while its not perfect, its better then most. the AI fight is pretty spectacular and some of the better sticks in the game have been playing in there and having a tough time.
HTC didnt tell anyone but the Gunners in the bombers are modeled after 999000(not really but it seems it!) so you better be good, or you gonna get dead, if you try to kill a bomber!
its really quite entertaining and the AI gets really interesting at low altitude as i stated before. if you think you're getting beat up too bad by the AI, Join the club! there are a lot of us in the same boat.

Actually, the AI will give you a nasty fight. I went after a formation of 4 and 2 went up to cover their friends and the other 2 came down to turn. The only thing that worked so far was a spiral climb but it may be because their guns suck.
Cherry picking hoing easy mode gang tards I tell you :old:
I asked AI9 to go to the DA with me and got no response. Typical :noid

What end controls the AI, HTC server or the staff's system?
So it sounds like resources aren't a problem and multiple missions could be going at one time!?
How big is the largest mission you've seen posted so far?

I have missions designed that need to be toned down because they will kill your frame rate before the enemy does. Plus HTC has in place a system where only so many (64?) planes can show up on your screen at once, so I need to tone down my 200 bomber missions to avoid players being shot by invisible planes. :)
-

Not sure what you mean. The missions are built ahead of time, you can't change or adjust them on the fly. HTC's servers are the host, it's not like IL2 where you can have a remote server or use your own PC as the server.
So it sounds like resources aren't a problem and multiple missions could be going at one time!?
There may be enough resources to handle it, but it's an option we don't currently have. You can only run one mission at a time, you cannot set the mission to repeat, nor the system to automatically launch missions every hour for example.

Sounds cool. Does your system handle them offline?

The drones are controlled at only one point. It sounds as if in this case that is Htc server. If it was programmed, those drones could be controlled by a players pc. Not in the sense that the player could do whatever they wanted with them, but only that their pc bore the burden of resources. I was just curious because if it's at the players end, I think it means more missions are possible.

I understood all that. It's basically a beta and I think it's heading for something better.
