:airplane: If you don't think the U.S. is in "need" of good people, in this day and time, then you haven't been paying attention to the incompetent people running our government these days!

Battle of Britain scenario, part2, I was pilot wounded, ditched then bailed out of my plane, had to AFK... Later on I review the tape, Zacherof landed his smoking 109 near me, swam over, waited with his pilot near my AFK pilot, and directed the pt-boat to find and save us both...
Thanks Zacherof! You, sir, are more awesome! <Salute> to you brother! :salute

Zach,
One Navy black shoe credo will serve you well:
"Half a man only shines the top of his shoes....a complete sailor shines the soles too"
Finish Honor Graduate in every school you attend and you can write your own ticket and remember to watch out for the ring knockers....they want to change the world and they'll order you to do it for them.

Good luck Zacherof <S>
I hope your job does not require you to have a security clearance. If they start snooping around while vetting you and find these boards, you're screwed.

Zach, you'll be fine. One piece of advice I've already given but I'll say it again. Don't argue with your DI or your supervisors - even when you know your right:)
Have fun - you are going to make lifelong friends and great memories. Be safe, stay out of trouble, and take the GI bill when they offer it in Basic.
See ya in a few months.

We had a guy in our company jump the fence at NTC San Diego. Wrong fence. He ended up on the marine side. Phone calls were made. 'Keep him for a week. Tell him his unofficial request to transfer branches has been approved.' He was happy to get back, I heard (bumped back a company, for his effort).

What type of explosive work do you guys do? I have initiated a fair share of counter IED charges and breach charges. You guys use cratoring charges or something?

Zach,
Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut! Learn to listen and respond without speaking as quickly as possible, but always clearly communicate your intentions to your team mates just as you have done in Aces High.
As you endure SeaBee Training, just remember...you could have joined...The Corps!
Best wishes

I was an instructor at Sea School (USMC) at MCRD San Diego back in 1973 and was out on a PT run with my Students near the NTC side of the airfield when a Navy Recruit jumped the fence and landed on our side! He saw us running along the track and took off for the airport fence! I swear to God that his feet never touched ground after he saw us! He got hung up in the barbed wire on the top of the fence and of course we Marines taunted him with our chants as we ran past him. I don't know what happened to him after we passed.
It's interesting that this 40 year old memory was tripped by this simple quote from Arlo. Dang, I'm getting old.

Neh. It's not old. It's aged. Like bourbon or scotch. ;)

What is interesting to me, Arlo, is how clear the memory is...it was a Black Flag day for recruits...but not for us...the sky was almost cobalt in color...winds were very high...the smell of JP5 was in the nostrils as we rounded the south end of the airfield...
LOL
Another thought comes to mind...Terns were, and maybe still are, a protected species of bird and they used to nest near the fences of NTC and MCRD and at the south end of the San Diego Airport. We had to adhere to a path near the airport so as not to disturb Tern nesting. We gulped copious amounts of JP5 exhaust to not disturb the Terns during our runs.

I was an instructor at Sea School (USMC) at MCRD San Diego back in 1973.
In 1972/74 my mother and I used to go to the commissary at MCRD, soon as we went threw the gate and down the road every one saluted the sticker on our car. The sticker showed my Pops rank or that it was an officer's car I think. The place was pretty old. We lived in Point Loma at the time.
I had completely forgotten all about this,
Thank You

Black flag days .... oh yeah. When our company was formed it was jacket weather. When we got closer to graduation the black flag days started happening. Honestly, my company couldn't march worth a damn. We carried the pizz flag a lot over that. The marines that came over for sick call or shots or anything even sat at attention. Gave our drill company a run for their money. My dad also went to San Diego for BC (Navy as well). He spent time prepping me for the experience, talking about guarding laundry and leggings (neither experience happened by the time I was in). Your time was before mine. I was actually saddened to find out it's no longer a BC for the Navy.

Good choice of branch and good luck Zach. GO NAVY!
