Title: League of Legends ranks
Post by: Flifast on September 22, 2013, 08:21:31 PM
My kid reached Platinum Division V!  I'm not sure what that is...I'm assuming it's top 1%.  Can anyone enlighten me? An old guy!

From someone who has played LoL for about 30 minutes and disliked the POS game it is, he's pretty good.

A hell of a lot better than me. I just got to Silver V today.

In my defense, I play while drinking, so....

Not bad (definitely better than me, then again I don't bother with PvP, yet :)), but still a LONG way to go, and won't reach the "1%" (or even the top 15%) without a serious team.  The "1%" are the ones playing in the World Championship, some examples being the TPA (Taipei Assassins), Moscow 5 and CLG (Counter Logic Gaming).

Oh, and how serious is it?  I believe the prize for world championship was 5 million in 2012.

I love e-sports :D

I will sit down to watch 4-5 hours of World of tanks, WoW arena, LoL, Hearthstone (not an esport but I really want to get it after watching TB drafting), without worry. Only cricket is on my screen for longer.

I was lucky enough to watch some of the final matches as well as catch all of the matches between TPA and Azubu Frost. :x

Though I do have a complaint.  Roughly a month ago, they announced the rewards for reaching a certain rank.  Again like last season, reach Gold for a reward skin (Last season was Victorious Janna.  This season is Victorious Elise).  But like last season, they announced late.  Unless I decided to miss a couple months of work, there was no way in hell I could obtain Gold within the 3 months time.  I don't have a real incentive to PvP to any rank otherwise.  Now had they announced the reward skins for what champion early into the season, I'd be sitting on Gold right now. :)  You have to give me a reason to put in the time, and both Victorious Janna and Victorious Elise would have warrant my time. :aok

I went from Gold V to Plat V in 2 weeks and half, playing maybe 3 games max every other day. Really not that hard unless you're unable to progress due to skill level. Yea, trolls sucks sometimes, but one or two losses didn't weigh me down much.

Same name in Leagues, titanic3. Plat V (currently), add me and send a message, I do play mostly every evening in 5v5s, always welcome to join the group.

Plat V is about the top 10% while Diamond III+ is top 1%.

To put it bluntly, I don't play ranked unless there is an incentive.  That's why the complaint I have is they make those announcements so late into the season.  With less time than that (I've hardly logged in here outside FSO and the current Scenario, much less on League of Legends), I'd want the whole season to play with.  It also gives me a buffer in-case watermelon hits the fan.  As is, I've yet to put in the required games to get a standing for the League.  I didn't have an incentive.  Now had they announced in the beginning or shortly after the season was underway about the Victorious skins (both Janna and Elise), I'd damn well get my arse in gear. :aok

With how talk goes in LoL, I was under the impression that unless you were Diamond+, you were below 20%. :headscratch:  Shows how much I actually keep track of that stuff. :noid
