Question:
I'm running a Fighterstick, peds and throttle thru a powered USB hub on Win7. Is there a need or benefit to running Control Mgr software vs standard Windoze calibration?
Thanks

you cannot calibrate ch fighterstick using windows calibration. you must use the control manager.

Funny, I don't have the CH manager installed and I can calibrate in Win7 just fine. When I plugged in my controls windows recognized them as CH products and loaded the drivers for them.
-
mine says it doesnt. just removed the ch control manager and tried it.

Since you've never installed it, it's not in your registry and you can calibrate your controllers in Windows. I don't recall which version it was, think it might have been 4.51 that required you use CM to calibrate but if you never installed CM or installed an earlier version then you can still use Windows like you've been doing.

Because you've installed it and info is still in your registry.

akak even when I freshly installed win 7 64 it wouldnt let me calibrate in windows. I have reinstalled win 7 a few times. and every time I couldnt calibrate in windows. which is the only reason why I have the the ch manager software set up. the only reason I installed ch software was for that purpose as I dont use it for any other reason. it seems weird to me but that's what it is.

The main benefit to using Control Manager is the ability to use the shift function and the three modes to program just about everything into the stick. Otherwise, just map everything in game and don't even bother with it.

Heya Max,
I've never had to install the CH manager on any of my win 7 64bit pc's to make /calibrate any of
my ch hotas setups like you are using....
I also remember the glitch akak is talking about I ver. 4.51 ( or one o f the 4.xx versions )
As for using a powered USB hub... Some people need them while others do not....
I have never had to resort to needing or using a USB powered hub....
and have not needed to use the ch manager on any of the last 7 or 8 pc builds that I loaded with the win 7 ultimate 64 bit os
hope this helps, good luck

I don't use the CH Control Manager, and I don't calibrate in Windows either. I just calibrate it in AH -- everything works fine.

had all CH for 5 years now never used CH manager.

fugitive how old is your stick?

same here....although I do remember trying to calibrate in windows when I first got 7...and it wouldn't let me. :headscratch:
I have the Ch CM just never use it...AH does a great job of calibrating....think I did it once in AH when I first got 7....
yet my rotary wheels on my X52 throttle will not stay calibrated no matter what I do.....
yet in war thunder they worked perfect. :headscratch:

my ch stick is 2 maybe 3 years old at most. since day one, i have never been able to calibrate from within windows. that's why I had to install the software. that is weird that you can.

Navigate to the controls, right click the stick and select "game controller settings", highlight the stick and click "properties" and select setting and then calibrate.

I totally believe you. but I have never been able to do it.

I used CH gear on Win7 without CM.
As I switched to another comp with XP on it I had to download CM.
After all I believe adjusting the stick to your needs works better in CM than in AH. I spent days and weeks getting AH scale to do what I wanted but never got it right.
3 hours in CM and my input is just the way I wanted it to have.
Just my 2 cents....

I think it's simply personal preference. I have the same all-CH USB rig as you. I happened to get familiar with the CH Manager long before I flew AH, so that's what I've continued to use. I pretty much leave the AH key assignments at their defaults. I do use the AH analog controller assignments to put pitch, roll, yaw, and wheel brake functions on the stick and rudder pedals. I also use the AH analog assignment to put the AH engine RPM function on the "throttle wheel" of my Fighterstick, because it gives me finer control than a "+" or "-" keypress. I use the CH Manager to assign keystrokes to the various buttons.
And of course, YMMV. ;)

I used to use the Control Manager in Aces High and had occasional issues of sticking views. - Because Aces High can map everything so well I stopped using the Control Manager and the sticky view issue went too! - So my advice is don't bother with it in AH.
So long as your stick is calibrated before you go into AH I don't think it matters. When setting up I always calibrate again in AH and take advantage of the damping, dead area and scaling facilities AH offers to tweak the stick to how I like it.

Same here, Windows 7-64 and I can not calibrate in Windows without the CM. That is the only thing I use it for, I don't have anything else mapped to it.

When i got my new pc a few weeks back my CH throttle kept tripping out and de calibrating it self mid sortie. Calibrating it in Windows 7(64) or AH didnt help installed CH manager and calibrated and had no issues with it since.
