It's funny if you look really close at the two North Africa P40. As with most AAF fighters that passed through depots in England before use in the ETO and MTO. They were retrofitted with British MKII gun sights and the N-3 tossed in a pile. You can tell by the characteristic bumper on one and the open mount of the reflector glass of the other.

Even by 1944 a P47D with bubble canopy has a MKIIs in the ETO. The 56th ripped out all of it's N-3 and replaced them with MKII until replacements were eventually delivered with the Mk8 in the D20 series or later the K14. This was standard practice for as many AAF fighters as possible passing through depots in England.

Am I the only one who at times I was born about 50-years too late? I've got a great life, almost always happy, not whinning but I still think I missed the boat.

When I was a kid talking with some B-17 gunners at Chino Field in Southern California and my Mom said as much. One of the gunners got pretty serious and assured me I was born at the right time. Well....
