I took up a Zeke and after nearly 20 minutes of searching I found a formation of B-24s up at about 17K with P-47 and P-38 escorts. I got a B-24 on my first past and came in for a second, getting another two B-24s and damaged another two but at the cost of my right cannon. By the time I came round for my third pass the fighters were well onto me and I managed to get a P-47. I dived to make my escape (it was now 7 on 1) three P-47s stuck with me. The P-38s soon returned to escort duty. Two of the P-47s peeled off and began to head back to the remaining bombers but one stuck with me and shot off one of my elevators from 800 out! I then took him into a turn at around 6K and slowly began to get round on him. We went round and round until we reached the deck and I thought this was going to be predictable like my last encounter with the AI (Yak-7B vs 2 109G-2s). I thought he'd just keep on turning until I was saddled right behind him but just as I was setting up on his six he did something that completely threw me off. He went into flat scissors which very nearly worked as I didn't expect it. I managed to stick with him and put him into the ground. After dealing with him I looked around but the nearest P-47 was now 5.5K and heading back to his bombers so I returned home with 5 kills.
Great fun and great practice! As long as those AI are still there giving me something to shoot at I will keep visiting the AvA.

17K? That's strange, I have all flights set for 10K. Sorry you had to search for so long. I was just in the arena and it seems that full enemy dot dar is on so you should be able to simply follow the red dots, but perhaps it was set differently when you were in.
Thanks for playing in the AvA. We will do our best to keep the bots flying as much as we can. :salute

In these AI patrol missions, you need to get within 1500 for the AI to peel off and engage, but I found it difficult to even get that close because the bombers tore me up.
I moved the fighters back about 200 yards from the bombers so that it might be easier to engage them without exposing yourself to the bomber guns.

More people with the mindset of "They are AI, so they must be just lame, no-skill bots" need to come in and try it at least once. I think you will be very surprised how the AI will give you a run for your money (and many times hand you your butt). HTC has done a fantastic job on the improvements they made to the AI "brains" since offline missions were first introduced a few years ago. Every night I hear players saying they can't tell if they are fighting AI or human pilots. They've become that good! Thank you HTC for giving this game option to the AvA! (They probably got tired of hearing Jimson & me lobbying for it the last couple years :D) Now the arena is full of combat no matter what time of day or night and I love it! :rock :salute

When I was in I don't think the arena was completely set up. I was able to select almost any aircraft, the AI were up high and there was no dot dar, just dar bar. I followed the dar bar as it moved through 3 sectors until I spotted them but it was worth the wait!
