Post by: wpeters on October 01, 2013, 09:32:45 AM
I am wondering how this is going to affect us ...

Is it going to kill the economy..

Please keep any unbiased.

P.S.    Skuzzy I know this is borderline  to Rule 14..   But I would like to know some facts..  This thread not for a political discussion.

CBO says we've had 17 partial shutdowns since 1977.  While unfortunate that we can't get seemingly basic things done, it's not entirely unusual and I do not think the sky will fall, contrary to news reports.

I'm starting to wonder about how much of a good idea it is to have a separate House and Senate.  I'd rather just have one big group that can find a majority and get things done, even if they're not the things I want.  Its almost always better to do something than to do nothing.

Maybe the Senators get elected to 6 years and get twice the voting power.  The Representatives stay as is.  But combine the two so that someone has a majority of votes and let government happen.

It's a wonderful idea if you don't live in California, Texas, or New York.

Don't get too discouraged by the gridlock.  Our government is supposed to be adversarial in nature.  Honestly, I feel much better about government when both sides are throwing rocks at each other.  I get suspicious when they're getting drunk and slapping each other on the back at cocktail parties.

90% of the federal government is redundant to services our home states provide anyway. We may all find this is an excellent thing for us all. I for one would like to give no federal government a try for a while. But if we don't like it after decade or two we can always fund it again.
