Title: Getting close to the finish line for son's colleg recruitment gig
Post by: Ripsnort on October 08, 2013, 12:35:24 PM
It's been a 3 year journey where 15 colleges were interested as far back as 3 years ago. Whittled that list down to 6, then down to 2.
We’ve returned from visiting the top 2 colleges recruiting my oldest son. These two were on his final list, both in Missouri.

For those that don't know, my son's sport is Lacrosse. He is a senior this year. Lacrosse is like hockey but with balls and no ice. :) Fastest game on two feet.

Not official yet until my oldest son Gordon's SAT scores are recieved from the university ( results 2-3 weeks after) but it appears he’s ready to commit to Lindenwood University, a Division 2 NCAA school in St. Charles, Missouri. (Hint, you may see him on ESPN2 in a couple of years if his team makes the playoffs!)

Coach Lange (Picture attached) has a very generous scholarship offer for 4 years to attend college and play lacrosse for Lindenwood. NLI in the snail mail!(National Letter of Intent)

1 down 1 to go.(my youngest son is already being recruited as a freshman in High school!)

Only a D2 school? Pfft...weak!

:p Congrats to you and your son(s)! I bet it is nice to see all of that hard work paying off.

He had offers from two Division 1 schools but D2 fits his lifestyle better.
The biggest difference is that in D1, you're like an un-paid professional athlete that essentially trains year around on campus whereas D2 you get to go home for the summer (albeit you have a PE schedule to maintain) :)

More importantly, he picked the school that he felt comfortable with, offered the degrees that he's interested in. Since the coach only has you 4 hours a day, you better make damned sure you like living there!

And, D1 and D2 do chase the same national championship trophy. :)

VERY physical game. Less padding then football too.

This was probably the most physical game I've seen at the HS level. FYI, my son is #29, he shoots the winning goal with 20 seconds left (their team won 10-9, Gordon had 5 goals)

Lacrosse is Canada's national sport, not hockey which is what everyone thinks.  Our Native Canadian communities played this game many moons ago, as the like to say.  If you've ever seen the film Last of the Mohicans, they even get a Lacrosse game going there between the Metis, Natives, and British immigrants.  Good times.

We had season tickets for the Calgary Flames, the Stampeders, and the Roughnecks, for nearly a decade.  We dropped all of them except the Roughnecks, as the local Lacrosse team is excellent, and it's a great time to watch, and went to just cherry picking the Flames NHL games we wanted, as we often ended up giving away our tickets due to lack of interest.

I also know that the doorman at the local clubs always groan when the Lacrosse Roughnecks team shows up, as they are in for a long night.  Tough customers, in a very tough league.

Congrats :aok
Nice to see someone (civilian) wearing the Infantry rope as well. :salute
Why not a big Lacrosse School like Maryland?

Congrats to the both of ya. Since he has settled on the Missouri area, has he spent any time there during the climate extremes? Gonna be a little different than the Seattle area. What major is he going to pursue? Something with a likely good career option?

Mav, 2" of snowfall average in Jan beats the hell out of 4" of rain and continous cloud cover. :)  Yes, he understands the climate change.  He wants to major in Business admin with a minor in Entrepenuership.

Oh, one other note, my oldest sister lives 3 hrs away in Buckner, MO.
So he can store his summer tires when he switches to winter tires at her hubby's RV garage.  :aok
