Being New to Aces high I must ask A stupid question,,,,,,,, When is the best time of day " east coast" to find large bomber streams in AH? My main goal and why I fly is to hunt down and destroy as many bombers as possible,,,, I fly 190s almost exclusively, so until my whole squad starts flying here regularly " and they will be" Im looking for a squad to tag along with in the scenarios. You will find Im very proficient in bomber killing,, I never ever attack from the 6,,, always from the 10 and 2 o clock high diving at cockpit. Rrely getting pinged,,,,,,,, I must say the gunners are very accurate here as well so its a little harder here then that other sim, but just takes more patience. So Im open to invites to tag along with some great pilots :aok

Large bomber streams? :headscratch: :huh

in the late war main I usually only find a set of bombers. is this typical of main or Do I need to fly scenarios to do what Im looking for?

Yes and yes.
There are occasional missions, but they are few and far between.
Regarding finding bombers in general, the place is at least as important as the time. Of course it is more likely to find buffs when more players are online, so the best time frame is around US prime time.
But you have to identify the targets most likely to be attacked by bombers, anticipate their movements and altitudes. You have to think like a bomber pilot to hunt one :old:
-
I like to lurk near Vehicle bases for bombers. There always seem to be Lancasters lining up to be slaughtered. :devil
-
Another good tactic for finding bombers is to loiter around friendly cvs that are near the front lines. You likely will not get large groups but often get steady streams of single formations.
-
Friday Squad Operations (FSO) (http://www.ahevents.org/events/fso.html) is also a good place to face bomber streams. JG11 is usually axis and usually facing bombers in all but the early war setups. Look us up at the JG11 website (http://www.jg11.org).
Regards,
Hammer

You can also watch for large dar bars forming behind enemy lines. They are usually bomber missions on the way to the strats. Not always the case though, If ET37 is on he runs b17 missions to enemy bases to shut the field down. I ran into his mission last night. Killed one straggler b17 then was chewed up and spit out as parts by the main formation.
-
AvA (Axis Vs. Allies arena) is also working on having steady bomber streams provided by AI bombers. :salute

:airplane: The Devil Dogs, (Rooks), run bomber mission 7 days a week, usually starting around 6pm, EST, in the MLW arena. Don't let these guys feed you a line, there are plenty of bomber missions every night. We usually have anywhere from 21 to 36 bombers in each mission. We do fly some hvy fighter missions also, and every once in a while, a medium bomber, B-25, 26, JU-88 mish, but usually B-17's or B-24's.

You haven't run into 999000 yet have you....... :old:
-
999000.... if you see a set of buffs that look like an easy target... it may be 999000 leading you into a false sense of superiority. :salute :airplane:
-
999000 is very deceiving, DO NOT dive on B17's NOE :noid
-
if i get 1 kill on 999000 i call it a day and leave the rest of that formation alone.
on finding bombers i use to sit around 25k and target what ever side is pushing hard, usually between their highest airfield and the current fields being attacked. More likely to be rook or bish, not a lot of knight buffs. 110 was my favorite buff hunter.
-
so you guys are saying that 999000 is my prime target? Consider him downed :devil soon as I find him lol
-
To find high altitude bombers, watch the strats. At least during US prime time, there always seems to be somebody messing with the strats. Once you start making a habit of looking at strats, you notice the paterns of approach to them, and can estimate quite well when a dar bar 2-3 sectors away is headed towards them. If someone is already at the strats, they usually make several passes, and you can estimate where they are by which strats are blinking, and when you get close, by the ack puffs. Of course the ideal is to intercept them before they get there.
My problem is that I am no good at attacking bombers, but at least I can find them.

I think when you see him on the roster you should PM him and ask where he is flying........

A word to the wise..... "face palm" When parts start falling off whatever vehicle you are in and most of the oil that was lubricating and cooling your engine is now covering your windshield...... just give 999 a salute, pull off and start looking for the nearest friendly base to crash land on or near. DO NOT.. 1) proceed unless you are looking to reverse engineer the proper gunnery for bombers, 2) call him a cheat on 200 and reveal any newb tendancies, 3) spam the BBS on how bad the game design is, or 4) proclaim to quit the game and play WOT.
I think I did 3 of the 4 above :D He is just that good.

shouldnt be a problem just look for "SYSTEM: 999000 has shot you down" in your text buffer.
-

Checking your stats for last month you had 79 kills TOTAL. 999000 had 103 in his B17s. I think you might want to practice up a bit more before you go hunting him..... unless you like taking off a LOT after he has shot you down. :D
-
to find the bombers one must think like a bomber pilot.
Get a quick grasp of the war situation, what fields are they going after, what base you would use to roll from? what squads are online and present. Most of the hunting can be done by dar bar alone.
Then fly a 262 low and hard. Find them on climbout, heavy and slow. Even the best gunners will struggle to defend themselves. Beware the crazy ones and the high and fast ones as they will most likely have a clue.
I could find a set of buffs with 40 people in the arena especially when 20 of them are Bish :t
-
Keeping a close eye on the map looking 2 or 3 sectors from your strats and tracking the direction the red dar bar is moving can produce results :old:
-
oh nice sig uptown. :lol

Attacking 999000 will give you instant feedback on whether you're actually good, or if you need to work on your technique. :)

just listen out on Country chat for people organising a mission, when you have found out what base it is lifting from and its target, just switch sides and go kill it
great fun and great whines :D
-
Right, so 999000 has to film every flight from here on in, just so we can get some personal satisfaction from a dose of schadenfreude.
I'm very much looking forward to 40 films or so before trymee kills a single 999000 formation drone, entirely due to one golden bb.

What a lot of folks don't know is triple 9s has a peg leg and only one good eye and doesn't fly unless he's polished off a couple quarts of Scotch first. :O
He's a one eyed, peg legged, drunken mad man that has never even opened the bomb bay doors! :bolt:

I hope one of these two posts a film of their first encounter.
Of course KNOWING it's Trip-Nines does make it a bit different and certainly takes a bit of the "WTF-death" factor out of it.
Good hunting to the both of you!

I just always assume it's him or one of the other guys that's made me look bad when I got lazy. Treat every bomber as the worst possible case, and the only WTF you ever run into is 'Well, that went better than expected.' :)

If there's a suspiciosly low B-17 entering a furball, I always check the roster to see if triplenine is on... :old:

beware of bombers escorting bombers :noid

One time 999 shot me down in my P-40 and I had to ditch in the ocean. He then went into a search pattern with his B-17's about 1500 ft above me trying to find me to finish me off. I had to sit there for about 15 minutes floating in the S.S. Flying Tiger before he finally gave up and flew off :lol
Sharks were circling waiting for 999 to turn me into fish bait...he's the consummate hunter :old:

tryme, Everybody shoots everybody down in here. I hope you noticed and will enjoy, the important thing is that what makes this game special is the community of great people who are a joy to play with and get to know. I'm glad you are here, I have my sights on you. <S>
-
So True Trip nine :aok Everyone has been so helpful and seems to go out of their way to help and assist us Noobs, Though being a noob wont be for long. Flown warbirds since 2003, and the community there was awesome, same goes for here since most of them are here now lol. Or paths will cross sooner then later Im sure and I do look forward to it  I fly rook side. What side do you fly 999? <S> Try

I'm a dedicated bomber pilot who thinks and flys like a Storch pilot most of the time. Look for me below 1000 feet and between the radar circles. I like low, fast Ploesti style bomb drops where I get sploded all over the neighbor's garden. I prefer auguring my ship into something destructible instead of hitting the silk so if you do happen to catch me at altitude and you do rake my back end ...don't be surprised to see me nose over.
I'm not attempting to evade you or take the easy way out ...I'm looking for something down there to crash into in immense spectacular fashion.
I am a dedicated bomber pilot ... hear me roar! :rock

:rofl We branded him a Knight, so the Rooks and Bishops won't take 999000... :devil
If you're agin'm (against him), then you're in trouble... If you're W'hm (with him), then stay close and tell your gunners to watch and learn... :old:

The best places to find enemy bombers in near CVs and undefended friendly bases under horde assault
-
In the real world. Fighters escort and protect the bombers to target. In AH 999000 escorts and protects the fighters to target. flying alongside 999000 is almost the same as hiding in base ack at 50 feet
-
999000 we miss you sir. <S> JT

he was on last night...

have been a squaddie with 9 for years. unfortunately our squad broke up. a few of us are taking a break from ah for a few months. when we get tired of tanks im sure we'll be back to help 9 escort fighters.

999000 is better than base ack, he is deadly accurate.
ET37's missions on the rook side are epic and if you are around when he offers one you need to join just to experience the mission. Chances are there will be a boat load of B17s and escorts.
The Freebird$ on Knights often run bomber missions in the wee hours of the morning (until FBBob runs the entire B24 NOE mission into an NME CV). :noid
