I don't know why but it feels like these last few months my skill level has been slowly going down. I can't hit half the time I aim at a target and I don't have any real ACM knowledge.
God I suck...
-
i'm having one of those tours myself
-
Don't we all
-
My advice:
1.) Gunnery - offline practice as much as possible and relax relax relax! When one goes through a slump the frustration can become a self-fulfilling prophesy...you become so tense your timing gets off, you become stiff and over-correct, etc.
2.) ACM - easy. Get with a trainer. This will also help tremendously with your gunnery as you take better angles to the target. Just learning when to use lag / pure / lead persuit is enormously helpful....especially if you are an aggressive player who tends to fly pure persuit (nose on target) all the time. Btw....even vets struggle with that at times (I sure do...)
Don't give up! :salute
-
Btw....you've got some pretty decent sticks in your squad who can help. Uptown/OldNo7 and Latrobe (for example) are fun guys and can help! Don't be afraid to ask...that's what squaddees are for!
-
I am too lazy to practice. I just asked bustr for his gunsight.

Someday I'll figure that thing out....but it does help. :D

Change your ride to something horrible, and don't care about losing. You will improve exponentially
or
Quit for a few weeks or months, when you return it will be fun again. you will care less and get much better much more quickly!!!
The common thread here is, you are caring too much! caring about losing, caring about poor aim, caring that your getting worse, basically caring.
The best thing I did was to quit the game for about a year, when I returned I honestly could have cared less about the outcome of any sortie. I improved rapidly and had more fun!
Sometimes you have to back up and re-realize that it is just a game :aok
I promise :aok

Best gunnery advice I ever heard came from a movie: "Aim small, miss small."

LOL!!! you get use to it. This is been happening to me for the last couple of years! I hope to break out of it soon.

You were never very good to be honest :old:

I have always felt the same since 2012 March :)

ever since I switched to using a TrackIR, I can't hit a cow in the butt with a snow shovel. I need to modify my profile to get a good dead zone. But so far, no luck, at that.
I suck at gunnery.

Please, Player1 is far better than I am. I am the worst player in the entire game. Can't buy a kill in any plane. Take a break from the game, relax and it will be fun again. This game is not a physical addiction, you will not have DTs from withdrawal.

Dear lord in heaven, we all know you think you're the worst player in the game. My first day back in the MA's and you said that exact same thing countless times in the span of a few hours.

Fly to where your opponent is going to be, and shoot him, simple

I try that, the buggers keep moving about :cry

If you do it right he shouldn't have the energy to move

Take a friend to hold him still.

I always seem to get worse right before hitting a new level. When the suckage in aim and ACM becomes real bad I bring the convergence in real close 300 or less and get real close to what I am going to shoot. A few days of this and I usually break through.
-
I'd tell you what I do when I start to suck but I always suck.
You must face your suckage, embrace your suckage and let the suckage flow through you.
-
"Spray and Pray" was the one I saw :lol
I need to use the Spray and Pray tactic more often. I get better results with it. All the ammo in the world won't mean jack if I'm dead. :)

My best advice to you is to go into the DA and ask people for 1 on 1 fights. I it really doesn't matter who it is.
This will do 2 things for you.
1. Your aiming will drastically improve. This is because you are constantly in a fight, always trying to take shots. There is no waiting around looking for guys to kill or people who will run away from you, you always have somebody right there you are trying to kill and take shots on. Great for practice.
2. You will gain knowledge and understanding of basic/moderate ACM. I would recommend fighting with a better known vet because they can show you simple maneuvers that will take your flying to a whole other level.
Do not be afraid to lose in 1 on 1 fights in the DA, it is only just practice and a way to learn and handle the way a plane flies.
-
player1 next time i see you on ill ask if you want to go to the DA for a bit. We will do a couple of runs, Ill through some suggestions out there, you can tape each fight.
I will also show you some real air combat maneuvers and how to time them properly when in a fight. There are some great subtle tricks you can pull that will make it hell for someone to be able to get a shot on you.

I am awesome :old:

You are awesome.... :old:

If you're getting worse the problem is probably in your head. Try and relax before you fly. You could also drive a few drinks into you, take a couple of hits or if the misses isn't around you could do some one handed pull ups to loosen yourself up before entering online combat.
Good luck and keep flying.

Violate is right....1v1s
Most of the best sticks in the game have literally thousands of 1v1s. There used to be a lot of 1v1s between 23-24 in the DA, don't see them as often these days would be nice to get back to that....I think some nights there was 8-10 people there going at it...no egos just good fights.

I like Cage matches to improve low speed fighting skills....
What's a cage match? Well, first it must be flown in the TA, not the DA.
A cage match is a duel that takes place within the confines of the airfield. A large airfield is best. I could go into a long explanation, but a video would best show what it is...

I like it a lot Widewing :aok

I've been noticing that my aim has gotten worse as well. The bullet deflection has gotten to point were hit sprites are not even visible anymore. This combined with the cockpit frame view, hitting an evasive target is 99% spray and pray and 1% skill.
I have to admit, when in a 51 I can out run almost any plane with a quick dive and WEP. Even when the multiple enemy planes are behind me at 400 yards I can extend away with minimal damage using minuscule stick maneuvers avoiding most enemy rounds.

I would be happy to dogfight, but enemy planes can hide behind my cockpit frames at 50 yards away. Then when I lose site of them and they gain the advantage I turn for home and dive for the deck.

First off there are very few posts to hide behind in a pony. Second "if" you lose them and they gain the advantage you can't win the fight by running away. You can however with better flying skills turn the tables back on them and regain the upper hand if you stick around.
REMEMBER you don't REALLY die if you lose!

This still happens occassionally. Always the same format, 6 or 8 guys, in a variety of planes, all fighting decently. Usually all on same vox and great fun. Always ruined by one or more idiots showing up and spouting the "cant tell me how to play" crap :bhead
