Yep, going there! "I have dared!"
Guessing some posters might be... :uhoh  :furious
RELAX!!!... it's ONLY history! ;)
From Wikipedia.org:
Rudolf Walter Richard Heß, also spelled Hess (26 April 1894 – 17 August 1987), was a prominent politician in Nazi Germany. Appointed Deputy Führer to Adolf Hitler in 1933, he served in this position until 1941, when he flew solo to Scotland in an attempt to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom during World War II. He was taken prisoner and eventually was tried for war crimes, serving a life sentence.
Just info:
10th of May 1941 Rudolf Hess flew from Germany to Scotland hoping to make peace with England.
22nd of June 1941 was Operation Barbarossa - German invasion of Russia... heavy stuff!
I read long ago, that England is supposed to release the official documents after 75years... so 1945 + 75 = 2025? Don't hold your breath though, super conspiracy stuff!
Fly a bf-110c to near an enemy HQ, bail out... and get "you have been captured" message to receive the "I have dared" achievement!
*Edit: spice it up? Have to stay under 5,000 feet, like his flight, for the whole flight!
Some days before the flight... (the guy on the right)

Hess took off at 17:45 on 10 May 1941 from the airfield at Augsburg-Haunstetten

"Ich hab's gewagt" = "I have dared"

The man was a complete nutcase - like most of that corrupt, evil, regime.

Politics? EEEEK! run away! :bolt:
More specific: fly from your team's HQ (a red-outlined base) to an just outside an enemy HQ and bail, then get 'captured' for achievement.
Would require refueling from a front line base probably.
Adding: in one tour, fly from your HQ to both other teams HQs for "Double Dare" achievement!

If it weren't for the political implications, I would think this would be a fun achievement to try and get. I don't think I see there ever being achievements that promote emulating Rudolf Hess or any other prominent Nazi though. Too much bad mojo there.
-
the op wants to be rewarded for bailing...
-
so 1945 + 75 = 2025?
:headscratch:

Good catch 2bighorn! England stated this stuff after the war tribunals... more around 1950... I forget when, not sure if Wikipedia mentions it or not.
I'm just 'rounding off' here... exact dates I don't know though...
Funniest thing is that the low self esteem troll guy that's always talking other people DOWN in almost his every post, mr gyrene81, did not catch this!
'epic troll fail!'
gyrene81 gets the 'epic troll fail achievement' :rofl yes thx 2bighorn!

funny thing is, when it comes to your posts, i'm usually right...

OP is confused about what trolling is and who is and is not a troll(er), ironically
while creating a troll thread (complete with anticipation of community ire).

I wonder, exactly how close to being a Neonazi is Schlowy?
-
The guy was on a mission of PEACE, and probably for alliance against the East, with which there continued a cold war for some 50 more after the war... k, thx!
Instead both countries were bankrupt, flattened and sank - by any measure.
You might negate, or reverse your questions!
-
bad news, germany was bankrupt when hitler took power and it wasn't in any better shape after he started a war...if good ole ruddy was indeed trying to make peace, being the person he was rumored to be, he would have used different methods.
-
Imagine if he had made peace with England, maybe war with the Soviets, "Operation Barbarossa" wouldn't have happened at all?
Still, you '2nd guess' him... ok!
YOUR SUGGESTIONS for what he could have done to AVOID the hell that came after?
I'll suggest: maybe he should have tried to get to USA instead?

oh yes it would have. hitler had intentions on the oil fields when he made a pact of non aggression with stalin. the intent was to keep russia out of the conflict until he could get his armies established in eastern europe.

i'm not second guessing anything. you should do some research on old rudy the "fanatically loyal" nazi and see for yourself if "peace offering" truly makes sense. what he actually tried to propose was for england to let germany take over europe with a half baked promise that england would not be molested. it was an attempt to gain favor with the fuhrer. if hitler had known of his intentions he would have been executed.

You will have zero SOURCES on what he said or wanted because HE WAS NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN BY THE OUTSIDE WORLD.
Not for the rest of his life, and even after, no document or anything will be released until 2020s... at which point, due to falsifications, no live witnesses, nuthin, and all 75yrs too late, so anything released will have zero credibility.

ok, yup whatever you say...you really should move out of the basement.

Wow. What a mess this has become :lol
The best information I've seen indicates that Hess truly believed he was on a mission of peace with Britain and the western allies. Hess was a fully committed Nazi and strongly believed in the racial policies of the Nazi party. He saw the Brits and to a lesser extent the Americans as Germany's natural allies, as they share a common racial ancestry. Hess was attempting to negotiate for peace with the western allies to allow Germany to focus their efforts on the Soviets whom he saw as their greater enemy, and which Hitler always regarded as the ultimate prize. All information I have seen indicates that Hess was acting entirely on his own accord, and he wasn't exactly known for mental stability prior to this incident either.
And to address a side argument, the peace treaty between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany was used by both sides as a way to temporarily avoid conflict. Neither Hitler nor Stalin believed that a war could be avoided. Hitler however wanted assurance that the invasions of Poland and later France would not be met with Soviet resistance (avoiding the two front war he tried so hard to prevent); and Stalin needed time to rebuild the Red Army following the purges in the 1930s.

dam, i screwed up the quotes in my last post... :headscratch:
Cman, everything i've seen and read on the nazi party from the beginning to the bitter end shows that hess was on a mission to help his own cause within the party, and that had he not been imprisoned as a pow, his return to berlin would have ended badly for him. he was a weak subservient minion to hitler and had no real power within the party.
-
Yes, what I've read seems to indicate that his mission was entirely on his own initiative, and Hitler was pretty PO'd about it. Had he ever returned to Germany, he likely would have been executed as a traitor.
I don't think he was necessarily entirely trying to help his own cause within the party, I think he genuinely believed that what he was doing was for the good of Nazi Germany. As I said, there are indications he wasn't mentally stable, and his actions were entirely his own, without any knowledge of anyone else in power. It seems plausible that he thought he was acting for the greater good, misguided though he may have been.
While he may not have had any real power within the party, he was still a noteworthy public figure. I still think most will find it very distasteful to have an achievement which involves emulating a prominent Nazi regardless of how powerful they may or may not have been, which was really my main point :)
-
I don't think an achievement honoring a high ranking member of the Nazi party is appropriate for this game.
ack-ack
