That boat provided my family with income for a few decades. My grandpa helped build her, my dad helped refit her and my uncle served aboard her. She was a sight to see when she came into Norfolk.

Sad, but time moves on.
I remember when Reagan used her sister ship, USS Ranger for some gunboat diplomacy with a couple banana republics in Central America. The Sandanistas.

You mean when he threatened with military force and supported an extremist right-wing insurgency against a legitimate and democratically elected government in Nicaragua simply because their political views and economic policies were preventing the exploitation of their environment and workforce by American corporations?

As for the CV, it would be like getting a "free" car...until the maintenance kicks in. :lol Surprised they were not able to turn it into a museum like they did with the Lex, and sad. :(

Why? I was merely clarifying the historical context in which U.S.S. Ranger was used.

The SNLF (Sandinista National Liberation Front) were not democratically elected, the Sandinistas seized power in 1979 after a short and violent revolution.

Not initially, no, there was a revolution that overthrew the murderous Somoza regime. There was, in 1984, an internationally recognized as free and fair election that returned them to power.

A great ship, with a great service record. She will be ever remembered for the bravery of her sailors and crewmen and this flight deck video will be watched in training videos for years if not decades to come.

My dad joined the Navy in 71 and this was still fresh on the minds of plenty of crew he served aboard on his first deployment on the JFK.

Sure, buy the ship for a penny, how much for the dock fees and shoreside power? :D

There have been three posts about history, and like 15 about the carrier itself. None of them have been political.
Also nice to see that your immediate reaction to someone with beliefs different than your own is to silence them.
