Title: Vought OS2U Kingfisher
Post by: XxDaSTaRxx on November 03, 2013, 08:20:14 AM

The kingfisher didn't see much service anywhere or anytime other than early war pacific, mostly used a spotter plane. I think it could serve the same purpose as the Catalina would... mostly for spotting Enemy CV's and displaying them.

I've suggested something similar in the past, however as far as how long the boat is visible, I wouldn't have it be tied to the proximity of the PBY, but make it a "last spotted" thing. Say, PBY approaches the boat and the clipboard map updates. So long as the PBY is in continuous contact with the CV, its position is continually refreshed. If the PBY is shot down or leaves X distance, the boat's icon remains on the map as a "Last Known Position" for a period of time (whether it's 15-30mins, or whatever) before being removed.

That's an awfully lot of aircraft for that one bomb.

We already have planes that were used extensively as maritime scouts.  Adding the Kingfisher or the PBY wouldn't change that and if you to give special abilities to the Kingfisher or PBY for scouting, then those abilities should also be given to planes like the B-24, B-17, B-26, B-25, TBM and SBD.

Same thing as the Storch, probably.

If they ever add submarines, then Maybe this could see them at longer ranges than other planes. And drop torps. But without Subs, this seems like a plane without a mission.  :salute

The OS2U was also intended as a naval gunfire spotter. Maybe have some way for the OS2U to be able to mark for naval gunners more accurately where their shots are falling, or somehow otherwise tie into ship gunner's ability to mark target ranges on the map.

This would offer nothing on every scale.

I vote "no".

I'd vote for the Swordfish before the Kingfisher.

Ultimately, I hope HTC is putting its efforts in to adding in a Soviet level bomber, a Ki-61 remodel and the addition of the Ki-100.  Oh, and maybe a B26, Ju88, and F4F/FM2 remodel.   :aok
