Title: Convenient Warping
Post by: Phoenix4 on November 04, 2013, 04:19:00 PM
So last night I had a guy, whose name will remain anonymous, warp once. I'm used to people warping, it's an online game, can't expect perfect internet. However what led me to make this post was that he conveniently only warped when I was about to get an overshoot or was lining up a deflection shot. He did so twice. I saved the film and watched it and he did indeed warp onto my six, then away from my overshoot path.

Not asking to start a hate session just asking what your opinions are and maybe whether this is something more malicious.

Send the film to HTC if you suspect something....I'm sure they would be interested and they take allegations of cheating seriously.  It's not above the realm of possibility.

The closer planes get, the more data needs to be sent/recieved and more frequent updates are needed. If someone starts shooting, even more so. If there are other planes in the area, and they're getting closer, add those updates as well. Could be his rig is barely able to keep up with moderate data streams, and gets easily overwhelmed at dogfight distances.

A poor internet connection on either end can do some strange things at strange times. I know of no magic button that will allow someone to warp. In the past I've seen guys warp that I'd bet a weeks pay on that they did it on purpose, only to find out later that the problem was on my end.

If by some outside chance your guy could warp on demand, someone else will also notice and believe me word gets around fast. Just ask anyone about Greens or Guido77. Those guys warped nonstop. Not because they were doing it on purpose, but because their connections just plain sucked. Greens(from Alaska) doesn't play anymore and Guido77 is smooth as can be now.

Next time you run across a warper, check your net status. If it's okay just politely tell the warper he's warping and ask him to relog. Most guys will as a bad connection isn't very fun for them either. Can you picture trying to hit anything flopping all around the arena?

I once met another guy from Norway in the MA and the lag was so horrible we were both warping all over the place (info having to travel halfway around the world four times for each update). We just had to call it even and find other fights. When you're low and slow it's usually not so bad, but if you're fast and fighting in the vertical it can literally be two "different" fights on each end.

you have never met joeblack have you?  his connection is so bad, he still hasnt landed all his sorties from last year.

and I was there and saw that guy, it was the weirdest warp, his plane actually flew at about 10000 mph from in front of you to behind you.  earlier he was behind me at about 200 and I thought I was dead then he warped to 1.5 behind me and turning away.  was weird.

reliable people have explained that the warping is only  due to bad connection and it's not done "on command".  I remember being behind joeblack and he would just warp all over the place, it was a miracle if anybody got a kill on him.

We had a squaddie that played on a connection in his old place. We would take of (10 or 12 of us) be flying along in formation then very slowly his plan would disappear, he'd saw "Time warp" and he would show up anywhere from 25-75 miles in front of us. His gas would be gone but there he was. All this in a matter of a minute or two. The whole time we would be chatting on Ventrilo with no problems. Some odd magic this internet stuff.

Saturday afternoon/evening (pst) there were a number of players complaining about warping enemies.  There were two or three times I saw everyone on my screen warp at the same time.  I have what I believe is a good, solid connection.  All this makes me wonder if there is something between here and HTC that is causing numerous players to warp.

Even if you normally have a very solid connection you can at times experience warps. From my personal experience if you see everyone else warping it is probably you that is having the issue. The internet is not a static place, connection quality can change from good to bad and back again in a relatively short period of time.

There was a time when I was able to play AH in the afternoons and things would get weird about the time the kids got home from school. I attributed it to the increased internet traffic the kids created when they got home from school so I would avoid logging into AH from around three until about five pm. For some reason the internet would seem to stabilize after that time and I could play without any major issues.

It is hard for me to play at college because the connection is so bad.

Even when I have a decent ping (90-100) I am still warping on other's screen. W00KIE accused me of doing it purposely when we were fighting but I don't do it on purpose. (He was upset he was losing in a turn fight Brew v A6M2).

I honestly don't believe anyone intentionally tries to warp, just so happened to be a coincidence if he warps behind you.

Plug pulling isn't a new concept, however HTC is good at whacking them.... besides that it like it is said, word spreads fast and films get sent in.

I experience warping problems from time to time myself. Usually it is because there are many players in the vicinity especially when clouds are near. Sometimes I forget to detune my firewall or antivirus and these programs often think the dogfight is the best time to start an update or a scan.

Often it is just a bad connect. Even if it looks "conveniant".

In WWIIOL, where I hail from, there used to be pilots who had a "lag switch". They wired a switch up to part of their modem/router(not sure how or which one), and would flip the switch on and off rapidly when they got into trouble. This caused them to lag erratically but stay connected because they switched the internet on and off so quickly. I am not saying that this works in AH, but people have come up with some pretty crazy things before  :old:

Chalk it up to wonky connection and move on.  I hate the finger pointing.

This kind of thing also happens during alien abductions. lol... Youre in your car then you disappear only to reappear six days later still in your car smoking a Cuban cigar 500 miles away.  Did you know Elvis is still alive ? omglol... He's not sure if he was abducted or warping.   :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Agreed. However, there were more people than normal complaining of warps and disconnects.  And that makes me wonder...

When you see a player warp conveniently or disappear when you are taking your shot, hit alt R and review your recordings later on. You can see from your prospective or theirs. Youtube is full of " how to make a lag switch " videos. Check 'em out and you will understand the so called convenient warp.  There is a difference between an occasional warp and the player that uses it to avoid being shot down. If your convinced he's using the lag switch, send in your recordings. When you see an IL2 disappear every time he is shooting at a Wirble or Ostie you know he is using it.  :D

Why do players use it?

Because they can.
