Title: I'm changing careers...
Post by: Fud on November 06, 2013, 04:55:31 PM
After a little over 20 years in the home improvement business, I'm changing careers.
I'm gonna help build aircraft carriers and submarines!
I had my physical, drug screen, respirator fit and badge picture taken last week. It generally takes about 3 weeks before the screening and background checks to clear before they contact for a start date and orientation. I'm hoping to start at the end of this month with 2 weeks of training and 4-6 weeks of either a shop environment or dry dock work.

I hope everything clears cuz I can't delete this post lol

I'll be at the NN shipyard!!
Sorry to hear about your dad.  :pray
According to the recruiting agent, she said that you may get 1/10 of what you get from an X-ray.
Heck, I think everyone and their brother's uncle in the area has worked at the shipyard at one time.
We had to go inside the shipyard for our respirator fit and training and that place is flippin huge!!!!

On one end of the yard around 26th or so street you have the Enterprise being dismantled and around 65th street you have the Gerald Ford being built and stuff in between...
Thanks

I spent quite a bit of time at Todd Shipyards in Seattle when we had to go into drydock. I could definitely get into working at one full time. Good luck!

Well, after a 2 week medical review (since I have a bad back and knees and this position requires lifting, bending, twisting and climbing) I am cleared and got the official "Welcome aboard" email!!!!

New is no problem on nuke boats.

If you're doing a refit, do yourself a favor and be vigilant on checking and you will be ok.

Well...after the physical and medical review they deemed me unfit to build ships. I injured my back in '86 and with the bending, twisting and lifting required of building ships they said "No ahh ahh"

Back to the drawing board...

Find out their subcontractors are and you might find they have less stern physical requirements.

They're going on your medical record rather than a physical test, anyway.
