I turn CVs all the time so I know how to do it. Sometimes, no matter what direction you turn it, you get the message "segment touches land". Took command, still can not turn...left game and came back, still could not turn. Seems to always be close to land when it happens. Another Squad member has seen the same thing happen. Is this a known problem or anyone know how to fix it?
I took 2 films...not good at using film viewer...don't even know if HT can see what I was doing on my clipboard in a film?
Ideas?
Thanks

Yes; that problem exists. It is a bother.

Um, yeah, but I found that if you keep it away from land, it won't give that message.

What map and sector? Perhaps the terrain has a water depth issue in that spot. Have you tried very small changes in waypoint direction each time you get the error, to perhaps find the opening back out from the shoreline?

Try selecting Patrol before adding waypoints.
Default is "looped" try "patrol" and it won't add a waypoint to complete the loop. That may prevent some segments touching land. We used to have Cvs on the beach before they changed it.

Sometimes it doesn't appear to be on or near land and it still gives the message.

This thread will probably be moved to Help and Training.
First you need two miles of clearance between your waypoint path line and land, more if you try to set a waypoint next to a coastline. A waypoint path line can squeeze through between two points of land that are four miles apart. That will work in the center of the map, but not along the edges.
IF the original terrain builder is very precise, the map for setting your waypoints will still be off in the current version of the game for technical reasons.
In the center of the terrain map, everything should line up well, but the map is scaled for viewing and it's stretched along the edges by about two miles iirc. That's 4 pixels on a 512 x 512 terrain so take that into consideration as well. If you're working along the west edge of the map, the land mass will show two miles further west then it actually is.
Hope that helps.

What map and sector? SFMA Sector 10,6 keypad 8, just off port 4. A little NW of P4.
Have seen it on at least one other map...no film, will note it next time.
Happens with patrol or looped selected, and I get it moving AWAY FROM ALL LAND...in any direction. In command or not in command of CV.
It is a game bug, no training needed.
Thread does need to be moved to bug threads...I don't know how. Started here to see if anyone had a solution.

Yes, we needed to know which terrain.
SFMA is a 256 x 256 terrain, meaning that you must stay about 8 pixels away from the nearest land. I just confirmed it in a custom arena and it's working fine for me so long as I keep the two mile distance from land, possibly a tiny bit more when setting a waypoint directly off shore. This isn't a bug, however it would be nice if the waterd.bmp determined where the land was. I hate seeing TGs running through the middle of islands.
