hi all I am looking for a RAF bomber command skin like the Lancaster has but for the B-24J?
lots of vague photos with very little info saying that they are for the right B-24. I want something I can prove was for a b-24j
Can anyone help
-
That would be difficult to do as per this article:

The RAF used the B-24 extensively for ocean patrol and also as a day and night bomber in the Med and Far East. But the Coastal Command aircraft were usually painted white below and the overseas aircraft were usually left in their US factory colours, i.e either olive drab and neutral grey, or BMF.
223 squadron was the only RAF B-24 unit involved with the night bomber offensive over Europe. This was an ECM squadron equipped with jammers rather than bombs. They would range ahead of the main bomber stream and jam enemy radar and GCI radio stations. Their aircraft had the Lancaster-style dark earth/dark green and black camo you are looking for. I can't find a photo on the web but there are profiles and models shown if you search for "223 squadron liberator". I don't think HTC would object to modelling an ECM aircraft onto our bomber, but you might want to check with them to make sure its OK. If you want to skin it I'll see if I have any photos of a 223 Squadron aircraft in my books when I get home tonight.

OK, so is this a model B-24J? It is from that 223 squadron

So long as the original aircraft has a front turret (i.e. B-24H, M etc.) you are usually OK as far as substitutions go, its just the dome nosed D they won't allow. The only reason they might object to this aircraft is that it wasn't used as a bomber and the front and lower turrets weren't used. However I've got away with worse than this before and it was an operational aircraft that was put in harm's way, so personally I don't think it will be a problem to do it. Can't hurt to make sure though.

So is a liberator b.vi a b-24j?
-
According to Wiki a Liberator VI was a B-24H in RAF service but fitted with Boulton Paul tail turret.
-
So looked up wiki and it is a Liberator B Mk VIII that is a b24j, I can't find one of those in RAF bomber command have you seen one if so where?
-
It doesn't matter whether it is an H or a J, any variant of Liberator with a nose turret is fine as a substitute for our J. I've skinned lots of B-24Hs, Ls, Ms etc. on our J. So long as it is not a dome-nose B-24D you are OK.
-
Not sure what you mean by a dome nose?
do you mean like these 2 images.
If so I guess that will mean that my Green Dragon II is out if you mean that sort of nose?
PLUS can I pick your brain on something else sir. What about a German B24H which was used in combat? image right at the bottom?

The upper image is what I mean by a dome nose, that is a B-24D and wouldn't be allowed.
The lower image is of an aircraft that originally had a nose turret. In its bomber form it would have been accepted as a skin with no problem. It probably flew many missions with that turret before being retired to serve as a formation ship. It then had its armament removed to save weight, with the turret areas plated over to reduce drag.
There are two reasons HTC might object to this aircraft as a skin. First, the faired-over turrets alter the shape of the aircraft and second it was not used in a combat role. Formation ships carried no guns or bombs and turned back to base once the formation had assembled around it.
The 223 Squadron aircraft has had its nose guns removed but the turret is still there and although it was not used as a bomber it was still a combat aircraft, so it is more likely to be accepted by HTC IMO.
Captured aircraft are never allowed as skins.
Its always safer to ask HTC or in here if there is anything non-standard about a subject you are going to work on.

As per the link I posted, Liberator VI and VIII could be either an H or an L, as the RAF serial numbers weren't sequential or related to the Consolidated model designation.

What it looked like before the RAF got a hold of it.

I have a few photos of this group. The pictures I have are not of any of the profiles you have the 24's I have are painted all black.
You may want to buy this book.

Hay Greebo, Know you were talking about substitutions, have you ever mad a substitution for a american b24?
If so I was thinking of doing this. I am looking for my signature B-24 skin if I don't get the Green Dragon II. No answer on the from HTC yet!
This is a model "L" but it does have the front turret like the "J"

Thank you very much for that, very helpful sir.
I ended ordering it myself. :aok So sit tight & I will see what it has to offer.

That aircraft has a front turret so it will be perfectly acceptable as a subject for the AH B-24.
-
Thankyou both for your respective reply, most greatful

Book arrived no photo of the J B-24 you have drawn. There is a partial drawing with a description of it though. I added the pages that are relevant for what you are doing & the photos that are in this book & a few others I have from other sources. Also there is two with some nose art that may make them more appealing to you than the one you have chosen? Also looks like they placed the letter of each plane on the front of the nose turret based off the two that I can see C & N.
