PLEASE :pray PLEASE :pray PLEASE :pray unweld my head from the 17lber. It's ridiculous not being able to look around to see whats coming in the direction of the incoming sound of a GV. Nothing worst than turning that slow thing all the way around just to find out it was a friendly. :bhead

Couldn't agree more!

it was something that broke with the new gv system and was never fixed
all it needs is a commander position like a gv..

I think the reason why it wasn't given the commander position was because of it's huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuge zoooooooooom in. Like the 5in, where I am able to tell what skin you chose for your plane... from over 7k away. I agree that we should be able to look around (like that of the 88), but I think a commander view would be too much.
-
I've wished for this in the past and agree 100%. Also, it would be nice if you could see the arena map while you're in the 17 lber without having to move it to the middle of your screen.

if the tanks have it, why not? 17 lber in an m4 gets commander view, but 17lber by itself doesn't? :headscratch:

Well, there were complaints last time this was asked for the 17lber, because you could hit a tank "at an absurdly long range".
I'm iffy on it.
Personally, I think we shouldn't be able to shoot while in commander view (for tanks).

that works too.

You could always make a deal with him.
Accept the real telescope sight reticule for the QF 17-Pdr if he unlocks the views. Otherwise Hitech has been very kind to us with the current reticle.
QF 17-Pdr Telescope Sight N0.41 Reticle.

The 17pdr Anti-Tank Guns came with a No. 41 (early) or a No.51 (later) Sighting Telescope. The No.41 had a 1.9x Zoom w/ 21 degree FOV & the No. 51 had 3x Zoom w/ 13 degree FOV. I'm not sure how that compares to our current model

The 17 Pdr sight we have now sure seems a lot like the Firefly's sight (6X zoom).

The only thing that matters to us in the game is the numbers a thingies that make the job of estimating aim as close to an aimbot as possible like the current reticle in the 17pndr. The anti-tank telescope sight in both version had a simple cross hair as the picture shows because they expected ambushing tanks to be at max 1800yds or pretty much line of sight. The left and right hand tick marks were if a small bit of lead was needed.
Like I said, Hitech is being very kind to us so we can shoot out to 4000yds and estimate range like a semi-aimbot. Letting a tank in the game get inside of 2000yds of you in a 17pndr is very often a loosing proposition.
As for unlocking the views. The gun team did have a commander but, it was a different team member who aimed. So maybe a commander mode where the gun stays fixed while the commander twirles liked a dervish with his binoculars.

This is what I was thinking of too.

Yeah I dont care about shooting in Commander mode. I just want to be able to hit my hat switch and look left, right, back & up

Perhaps but the Gunner does not have his face attached to the sight, he could look around, our gunner cant. In game it is very difficult to be spatially aware if you cant adjust your views. Especially when it comes to hearing where the enemy is with stereo speakers. At least for me. The gun traverses so slowly I hardly see how giving views to it is too advantages to the gunner, it would mostly serve to remove alot of frustrations.

I agree, the gun traverse is slow already, but being able to look around while you move the gun just makes sense. Like MK-84, trying to determine where the nme is based on the sound is extremely frustrating. :bhead

A non-shooting crew commander mode with zoom would be realistic. Putting in a slave toggle so that the gun doesn't traverse until the commander identifies a target would be realistic also. Then the gun can only be fired from gunsight mode.
The heart of this is many really want the 17pndr and 88 to travers like the 37mm does and speed with the same freedom of view.

Nope. Everything you listed would be just fine. I just want to be able to look around and be able to see the arena map so I have some clue what's going on in the game.

I really do not think it is. I think the majority of us would like to be able to look around like we can with everything else in the game.

,
i don't think so. just want to be able to look around, the traverse shouldn't be affected.
i really don't see the difference between the 17lb field gun and the 17lb gun in the firefly.
one is fixed to the gunsight, and one has a commander view where hat views work.

Lol I thought the subject was in reference to frying a Turkey.
Nothing to see here move along :)
-
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Having the gunners face welded to the sight is beyond idiotic. There is not a single other gun, vehicle, or plane in the game that suffers this absurd limitation.
-
There is another thing I'd like to piggy back on to this wish:
I'd like to see ALL of the manned guns face outwards of the field instead of all pointing in one direction, which seems to be north in most cases. I'm not understanding how or why a 17 Pdr would be looking across the field to the north when it is situated on the south side of the base. Ditto for the AA guns, too.
-
Being able to look around is cool but should be without the zoom you get while in the sight.

I reckon they are simulating Binoculars.

I figure it would get the same level of zoom that tanks get from commander view..

Which is 2.5x, just sayin'. :D

OP: You weren't the 1st with this wish, nor will you be the last. Hopefully you are, but I won't hold my breath. :lol Definitely get a +1 from me. :aok

Agreed. :aok

I think a good compromise would be to work it like the bomb site in buffs. F1 is normal view, without the gun site or aim point reference; you could still traverse and elevate the gun and fire it, but without a gun sight you'd be unlikely to actually hit anything. F6 would drop you to the gun sight, with it's aiming reticule and zoom, but no ability to look around. My 2 penny's worth.
