Title: Thanks for no mingey dweebury
Post by: pembquist on November 26, 2013, 12:24:34 PM
I was posting in the off peak MA is dying thread when I realized I was way off topic. There is so much complaining and peanut gallery opining that I thought I should say that I think AH is the best retail flight simulator there is. It might not have fully functional instruments, radios, nav aids, carb heat, weather etc. but it makes up for that by having such a superior stick and rudder experience that all that other button pushing stuff is trivial.

As a game what makes AH superior is the above plus the simple persistent nature of it's world.  Despite not having painterly graphics, it is blessedly free from multiple pointless screens and cheesy copy writing and structure or levels or stuff you want to scroll past or offerings in made up currencies and lies and marketing gibberish.

I don't think that this kind of 4 clicks to in the air game comes about except by having a creator who "gets" what flying is about, and is not driven by the bottom line as much as realizing an idiosyncratic vision. It may well be niche but it is a damn fine niche and I am thankful that Hitech built it.

Here Here.  :rock

I realize the game has existed for many years, and I've only been playing for less than a year, but I agree with the OP.

There's nothing more boring than waiting in a queue to play a fresh map with other players who have purchased an advantage in some virtual currencies. Even more over, I don't have to actually have my pilots' licence with thousands of hours to understand how to get into the action.

I've played a few flight simulators and combat simulators over my short career as a cartoon pilot. It all started with SWOTL, which lead me into the B-17 game which was over done IMHO to the point where I was flicking switches and banging my keyboard to get the big girl in the air let alone be effective with it...

This game combines the required flight physics with ease-of-use to get every air combat enthusiast in the air!  I'm just so thankful I found this game!  :airplane:

I don't want carb heat and all that jazz.  Until you can give me a real cockpit to sit in the automation is more than okay by me.  I never liked IL-2 because after 8000 hours in everything from 152s to jet attack planes a PC is not effective at recreating the form and function of a cockpit.

AH strikes the proper balance in that regard.

Of all the whining about state of the art graphics and the graphics being antiquated   :cry

HTC has PUT THE PRIORITIES on exactly what we always wanted...as accurately close to real flight modeling for each aircraft...with the "Walter Mitty" next best thing to flying a WWII crate that we could ever ask for.

Other games have pretty hi-res graphics and their flight models S-U-C-K.  They have the similar flight models (with some adaptations) for most all the fighter planes.  So for all the window dressing they have it's not even remotely close to the flight modeling HTC has.

Yes, but after years and years of work on the flight models, perhaps NOW is the time to pretty up the place in the interest of drawing new players and surviving.

Please include scoped rifles.  I would like to shoot guys taking off at capped fields after I die and bail out.  Grenades too.  Also, please let the lowest ranking player control ground troops.  I would like to take towns Patton Styly.  Big Funs await

Now this is a great idea. A sorta side adventure deal.

Replace that ugly factory at TT with a golf course and I'd be happy.

What's wrong with head shots on pilots in the spawn hangar with your .45?

If they dont upgrade the game there may be nobody left to do the whinging by next year.

Yeah it is, and always has been, a great flight model but the graphics, maps, and game play have gotten as stale as old bread.

The 1911 sucks

It's over modeled in the game though.   It's got a 9 round mag with no visible extension and you never get a stoppage.

If this model is retained,  I demand it cost perks for usage.   In real life,  a 1911 that never bobbles will cost you $37,000.   :)
