Title: My wifes new guide dog
Post by: xbrit on December 03, 2013, 09:30:57 PM
Some of you know my wife is currently going through training with a new guide dog, here are the first pics I have of the dog. Her name is "Sparrow" , my wife didn't name the dog that is done by the puppy raisers.

Good looking pup!

It's amazing to me what they are able to train working dogs like that to do.

A proper Southern response would be: "Mighty fine hound dog you got there."

That is one cute dog!
I live in Morristown, NJ where the Seeing Eye is located.

The trainers use the town for training both the dogs and the people who use them. While walking my dog we see them a lot.
The dogs are amazing animals.

We have a friend who always uses Seeing Eye for his dogs, my wife is at Leader Dogs in Rochester Hills MI. This school is assiociated with Lions Club of which my wife and I are both members. My wife gives talks to different clubs in our district to raise funds for Leader Dog and over the last two years raised over $40,000.

Would Sparrow like a bag of pig ears for Christmas?

She would probably enjoy them but being a working girl she's got a very strict diet, the only treats the school allow them is Milk Bone Mini's and even then they have to be broken in half.

That's definitely better, for training.

wtg and congrats on the new addition to the family.  Working and service dogs are completely special in that they do a job--but that job is 24/7/365 no days off--no vacations.  we have 2 german shepherds and they also double as security system...but they have many hours every day of nap time.  they are pacing themselves.
