Of course, every guy in here is an expert :aok :devil . I've been trying to do a little research online to see what kind of bed might work for some hip pain relief. Things seem to point to either memory foam or latex foam mattresses. I've laid on a few memory foam mattresses in some stores, but I know you cant get a good idea of what they will do long term. Our current mattress, which is a Serta, seems to have lost its support on my side of the bed, as I seem to sleep in what I call a hammock. In fact in the last month of sleeping in motels about 8 nights doing road trips, I sleep better in motel beds than my own.
I am a side sleeper as they call them. I also weigh 100 or more pounds more than my wife, dangit she is thin and very trim, so I guess that is why my side of the bed wears out. I'd like to say it wore out from other ..... um nevermind. Maybe if I get the right bed, some twerkin may be in order somewhere :devil
Since I am the one complaining about aches and pains, she said to buy whatever I was happy with, but had concerns with the foam mattress sleeping hot and in a hole as some people describe the memory foam mattresses.
So, I was looking for some input from our community, as I know we have some older  participants in our membership. Wife and I are in our mid 50's and been married 35 years this last June.

Oh my goodness where I could go with this post - when I first read the title :lol
I have scoliosis of the spine and arthritis throughout my back; mostly in the lower back and hips. The wife and I bought a comfort top Sealy and it's been the best cure for rest I've experienced. The mattress is now 9 year's old and needs replaced though.

Stop twerking, you are too old for that sorta thing.
Seriously, the one I hear advertised by radio hosts that typically I feel endorse good products is known as a Dux bed. Iirc, it's a Swedish company and they are not cheap. The guys that I hear endorsing them claim that they actually use/sleep on them...

I have had a memory foam mattress for over 5 years...my wife has scoliosis and bad hip pain...the wife had (that's right I said had) experienced much relief from the pain for the first few years that we had it...but here within the last few months she has been complaining that she's hurting a lot worse....we have flipped and turned the mattress throughout its life and I have no complaints about it...when I touch the mattress I'm out...but she has been saying its getting a lot stiffer....we are looking into a sleep number bed...we checked them out at the Tulsa State Fair seem nice with the ability to conform each individual side to your liking...I have no pain except shoulder and our current mattress is fine to me, but the wife is bedridden and its sometimes several days before she can get out of it...so....the memory foam mattress IMHO is great and I wouldn't sleep on anything else....a sleep number bed is worth looking into but its expensive....Ill be picking my sleep number bed up on the 13th so Ill let you know how she likes it

I've slept on a sleep # bed and found it amazing. Our 4 YO Serta pillow top will be replaced by one when it becomes uncomfortable.
The ability to adjust each side will help a lot since you are admittedly fat and hairy while your wife is lithe and trimmed. ;)

As someone mentioned earlier, a sleep number bed is probably your best choice. Not only will it give you and your wife the different firmness based on your different weights but it can change depending on how you're feeling at the time as well.
They are pretty expensive, but you get what you pay for sometimes. Either way, try whatever bed you buy in the showroom.
edit: I'm not expert in beds, but I do like to sleep!

I totally agree. I have a bad back and I bought a $5000 Sealy Cashmere Temperpedic Memory Foam top Mattress, Boxspring & Pillows..... gave it away a week later (Kept the $200 pillows). Worst thing U ever slept on. Get the Sleep Number... You wont regret it

Separate mattresses in the same bed, adjusted for personal preferences. If you wish, a mattress pad covering both sides might be nice. They are available in various thicknesses and even in memory foam. A relatively thin one (below 3") won't alter the personal adjustments of each side.
A good bed is important for us with an easily breakable back, but stretching and excercise are of equal importance. Just for a reminder... Sleep tight!

I would tend to agree,I will be looking at a sleep number mattress for my next bed!
I've owned several expensive mattress's over the years,a cashmere pillow top was one of the nicest but my wife wanted to try a memory foam topper so we go one and use it now. It's very nice but at 5 years old it;s starting to show signs of wear, dips and high spots.
I have a friend with a sleep number bed and it's going on 10 years and still like new! SO from a longterm investment point the sleep number would be cheaper in the long run,as I dont think they wear like a regular mattress, although you could get a leak!
The rubber is much like a zodiac boat so you'd really need to abuse it to get a leak.
YMMV.

Parents bought one last year, king size, so was a couple grand... But every time I have laid in it, I have had the best naps ever! What's is nice about them is that you can find your perfect number. My dad thought previously he liked firm beds, but now he is a 35 I believe.
I set it up for them as well. It's a pretty simple set up. They got the entire bed set, so they got the base and mattress. Set up the base, which is all plastic, they set up the mattress. For the king at least, there is a foam shell you set up. Then you set in the two separate bladders and inflate them partly. Then you finish the top of the mattress and inflate them all the way up and then bring them done to the number you want. Overall, I think it was about an hour or so to set it all up.
Should a bladder break, it should not be too bad to fix or replace.

i have lower back problems including chronic sciatic nerve pain. i just bought a 10 inch thick multi density memory foam mattress...for my weight, it's the minimum recommended thickness. it's not an expensive brand/model, no latex, no gel foam...it doesn't get hot and it's like sleeping on the most comfortable sofa you have ever taken a nap on.
one issue with memory foam mattresses is they lose their resilience over time. rotating the mattress once a month keeps it from losing it's support quickly. a good model will last 10 years easily.
the sleep number bed is a glorified air mattress (notice the commercials don't have any fat people on them)...for the money i'd rather have a tempurpedic memory foam mattress with the adjustable bed frame.

Thanks gyrene. If you would, could you either post a website to see what you have, or if you prefer pm me on here and I will take a look. I'm not overly interested in spending 3-5 thousand dollars on a durn bed very bad.
