Title: 3d printing
Post by: pembquist on December 14, 2013, 02:17:16 PM
Anybody do 3d printing as a hobby? I am wondering what a good basic 3d cad program is for it and what a good ?service bureau? is. (I don't know what you call it but I mean a company that you can email a file to and they will send back a part.) I have Autocad 2000 on a windows 98 machine but I would rather just recycle it than try to use it. I could see spending up to maybe 200 for software.

There is a company called Shapeways.  You upload your designs, and even can make them available for other people to buy as well.  You make money when other people buy a print of your design.  Of course, Shapeways takes a cut.

Good company.  Great customer service.  Nice prints.

I play the table top miniatures game Wings of Glory and have purchased many many 1/144 scale WW1 biplanes printed by Shapeways.
