Go with 7 if possible!!!

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit minimum ..............  if you using your PC for work related stuff and need the extra features go with Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows 7 Home &  windows 7 Home Premium both 64 bit versions, they have a Lower amount of System RAM limit

once you get to Windows 7 Professional, the threshold is broken and you can use / install Larger amounts of System RAM ............ if you want to or need to

hope this helps

Good Luck

Win7 looks and feels like previous Windowses starting from 95, Win8 would be fine if you'd never used a computer. That's GUI-wise only. Win7 has also had more time to mature.

If I had to buy it separately, I'd go with Windows 7 64 bit. I haven't used Windows 8 but my coworkers who have it tell me that they dislike it intensely.  Nevertheless, I'll probably end up with Windows 8 after my next new PC.  I'm just hoping that by then MS has quit fighting its customer base and realized that it is stupid to force people into using a cell phone user interface on their desktop PC's.

Install classic shell and you'll hardly notice the difference.

Go with Windows 7 64 bit.  It has matured and is pretty stable.  Also easier to work with, out of the box.

Also, depending on what you use your pc for, you might want to go with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but it will limit you to a maximum of 16 GB total ram

once you hit Windows 7 Professional or higher, you break that 16 GB system Ram threshold... and can go up to 192 GB

Windows 7 Home basic is limited to 8 GB total for the 64 bit version

I do not recommend any of the Windows 7 32bit OS versions....... max on RAM limit on these can be either 2 GB or at best 4 GB

just a FYI
