Title: video recording
Post by: guncrasher on December 25, 2013, 01:53:28 PM
so i got a new 770 2gb video card monday.  was actually curios about akak who mentioned that shadow play was better than fraps at recording in game play with a lower foot print.

I was actually impressed with shadow play.  it doesnt seem to impact fps at all.  but twice it recorded a video in a weird type of resolution.  not sure why, guess some kind of bug.

anyway so I decided to try fraps I was flying around recording with fraps and notice I still had full frames, then noticed that shadow play was on.

I thought it was funny that this video card using my 2500k and 16 gigs of ram can maintain full frames while using fraps, shadow play and ah recording at same time.

oops update: it looks like shadowplay wasnt on.  using either one I get full frames.  using both I get 48 frames but it stutters a lot.  overall i think shadowplay being free is gonna be cool.

I also recently started experimented with fraps, Quality, frame rate etc... are good but the file sizes are too big ... like 20gb for 5mins of video...
Maybe I ll try shadow fly as well.

Fraps creates an .avi file which is barely compressed -huge files - You simply use a video editing program to convert to a compressed format. For instance you can use the free Windows Movie Maker.

ShadowPlay is working pretty well for me and it seems like Nvidia is working pretty quickly to improve it.  I still have MSI Afterburner installed, but I'm not really using it for recording AH anymore.

still bothered by the fact that shadow play will record in two different modes:

the second one is the correct mode.

It only records in one resolution for me, 1920x1080 at 60fps.  Are you using multiple monitors?

Looking at the Nvidia forums, it appears to be a known issue some people are having in some games.  Seems like using the latest beta drivers fixes it for those that are having this problem.

You need to have a GFX 6xx series or greater to be able to run ShadowPlay.

Shadow play has been working fine for me tho I havnt done any editing with the footage, nor have I converted the MP4s to another compression. I have found the biggest quality bottleneck to always be the uploading of the footage onto the net.
