Title: What Did You Get Under Your Tree?

I got some new strings for my bass, (Blue Steel strings) a new cable for my amp and a $20 gift card.

Our kids (13 yr old boy/girl twins) made out like bandits tho. iPhones. Beats. Clothes. Son got an airsoft gun he wanted. Also got a Remington 870. Daughter got a Browning ABolt. She got her first deer this year and is really into hunting now. I wanted to wait to upgrade her rifle to see if she was going to stick with it. Well after 3yrs hunting hard and not connecting. She was ready to go again this year. Figured her persistence and stick with it attitude she deserved an upgrade. Sooooo proud of that little girl :aok. Would post pics of her and it but don't want to offend anyone. (But if ya want to see it I'd be happy to pm ya the pics......LOL.

Best present I got was the ability to spend some time with my family. Couldn't pick 3 better people in This world to be around

You'll have to give her a list next year. How would you guess mine got the idea to buy me a single malt? Or the BBC-Beatles, when I'm not much into their official recordings? She asked, I answered. Simple as that! That method also cures another problem women think us men have: Talking about our needs and feelings...

It works the other way, too: I know she'd like a book, but I can't figure out which ones she owns but has lent somewhere, which ones she has got from the library, which series she's got bored with... But if she shows an item in an ad, that's a hint even I can understand. Add some improvisation and voilà!

About the improvisation part: My wife really likes the axe she got from me the other Mother's day...

This year, aside from the usual clothes and misc items, my wife bought me a Microsoft Surface II, with keyboard. 64 gigs memory, plus another 32 gigs in the micro SD slot.

Compared to an iPad, far less apps are available. However, it makes up for it somewhat with a usable MS Office suite, making it useful for working. I have used an iPad often, and the iPad may be better for entertainment, as is the nifty Kindle Fire HDX. But, if you have a need for a tablet that can be used for work, it's great. Learning Windows 8.1 is a pain the neck though.

I find it as capable as a low end laptop, although it is much faster. It lacks the hard drive storage, but you can save the big files to the cloud. I had no issues adjusting to the keyboard. Kinda like it. Time will tell.

Post by: Widewing on December 31, 2013, 10:35:33 PM: I mentioned earlier that I received a Microsoft Surface 2... Excellent little machine, but Windows 8.1 took some practice to get the hang of. Then, yesterday, the touch screen stopped working and it would take forever to shut down or boot up. Unhappy, I did a system refresh and reflashed the BIOS (can be done very simply, actually. Built in BIOS repair function). Fixed... Still, I've lost confidence in this unit. So, I contacted Microsoft and a replacement is on the way. I'll do a system restore on the old unit... Don't want to send it back with anything on it but the factory installed software.

One bottle each of mead (Redstone), champaign (can't think of the label off hand) and bourbon (the one with the buffalo on it). Never tried burboun before. In hindsight, I probably shouldn;'t have tried it after a full bottle of mead, but happy new year!
