I have IL1946 which makes a nice coaster for my desk!

I bought it several years ago when it first came out and had so many issues with the DRM and Vista OS that I simply gave up on trying to get the game to work.

Ya I went to IL's forum and asked for help which they were more than happy to give me except they wouldnt post in public what I needed to do to make the game work, instead they sent a pm and told me to get a pirated key....  Seems the DRM issue was not a problem on US versions but anywhere else on the planet it is or was. I dont know if they fixed it or not but when Maddox sent me to get a pirated copy I had to ask myself why would you buy it when this is all you need do and they even gave me a link to where to download this illegal crack to their game.

Because of this I will never have anything to do with that series of games or company ever again.   Freaking retarded if you ask me.....

I'm flying Il-2 sometimes... Actually it isn't the 1946 IL-2 it is heavily patched one with stuff like HSFX packs that add many planes/features by the community (on what kind of legal/agreement bases I still have no idea but it works somehow)

This is actually the way IL-2 works today - HSFX packs do the "job"

When I fly with some of my fellows I fly online only.

The flight modes I very frequently inaccurate like P-51D with sustained turn ratio of 3.9 or Spitfire having no difference in roll ratio with and without clipped wings.

I can say several thing about the community:

- It is big (mostly because 99% of players do not actually pay for the game)
- It considers themselves "very serious" i.e. flying "the real thing" were they have no icons, no automatic trimming, no interactive maps for navigation and some other quite IMHO over rated stuff - forgetting that simulation can induce huge problems that aren't realistic for "the real thing".
- It behaves very seriously - sometimes forgetting that they play just a game.

I tried playing IL2 and Cliffs of Dover, my mistake for not researching Cliffs of Dover when it first came out, the buggiest piece of crap i've ever played in my life. I thought Red Baron II was the worse until IL-2 came around.

I have it in my steam library maybe, I know I threw out my IL-2 1946 disks, I refuse to buy any other games from them.

Made the same mistake with Cliffs of Dover. :bhead  Least 1946 is better when vanilla vs vanilla. :noid

Check the forums there before installing to see if an arena is still up.

All this stuff has existed for quite a while yet I am here paying good money to fly aces high instead of being there.
