I'm a fan, but don't usually keep up with F1 news during the off season. However when checking in to see if there where any updates on Schumi's condition I found this article.
http://www.planetf1.com/driver/3213/9090292/-Double-points-not-a-dramatic-change-
Seriously   dbl points for Abu Dhabi... arguably the WORST circuit on the calender, one that is only on the calender because of the ridiculous CA$H they bring to the FIA.
And Jean Todt says this artificial gimmick that may change the outcome of the championship based on a fluke is not a big deal, and instead wants us to be all happy because F1 is going "green" and "reducing costs" with engines that are 40% more efficient... as if the teams aren't still flying several 747s full of men and equipment around the globe several times a year, and trucking dozens of semi trailers all over Europe Or are those 747s and trucks "green" ones that run on happy thoughts and butterfly farts Jean? (not to mention the tens of thousands of fans that fly and/or drive many miles to races) From what I've heard the new V6s with the turbos and the super duper KERS will cost way more to build then the V8s anyway. Yup... F1 is saving the planet and money by making race cars more efficient    And granting double points for the last race, on the worst track... well that makes perfect sense...
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... MY FREAKING HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE FROM THE STUPIDITY OVERLOAD!
Really I still WANT to be an F1 fan, but between the idiots of Jean Todt, and grand-F1-puuba Bernie, the tragedy of good drivers kicked away for reckless "pay" drivers and some of the just awful stewarding the past few years. Well I don't know if I can take if any longer.
Sad thing is there was actually some reasonable motorsport fan (British chap, I forget the name, Eddie Jordan interviewed him on BBC) who wanted to run against Todt for FIA president, apparently he got next to zero support though. Sad...

F1 research on energy efficient turbo machines will eventually be used on production cars is what they mean. A bit like space research creates household products.
Too bad that the downsized turbo machines have proved to pollute much more cancerous microparticles than conventional engines despite lower fuel consumption.

hang on Brazil the worst track? you got to be kidding . Brazil is an epic track . lots of over taking places (even with out DRS and kers) . I loved the turbo era of the 80's and while they won't be as crazy as back then it should be good with Honda back in 2015 . Though I'd like to see diesel being allowed maybe we could get an Audi F1 team then . I think the racing is going to be much closer this year . Smaller teams have a better chance with the new Aero rules . the cars are going to look prettier too . Jean Todt was the guy that helped to make the Crazy days of group B even more mad with the Pug 205 WRC (mid engined twin turbo 500bhp 205) . Personally I'm looking forward to the coming season .

Brazil is a great track. We're talking about Abu Dhabi... check the 2014 calender. :aok
Honestly I'm fine with the turbo cars (just the marketing of them making F1 'green' is silly) ... my gripe is the ridiculous double points crap.

From what I've read next season is all about fuel management in the turbos!
About half way through last season almost all the drivers were "practicing" on the sim to get best fuel range.
I'd like to see it setup so you get 1 set of tires for the race and no refueling, this would illiminate "passing" in the pits and sepperate the men from the boys! Lets see just how good they are when the tires start to go off, you'd see the guys who are smooth and fast going to the front.
They should be able to dial in as much boost as they can handle, this would promote passing but at the cost of running out of fuel, much like in the turbo era of the 80"s,man I luved those cars!!!!

Abu dhabi.... bugger , least it's not Korea.
As to the turbo , the teams can dial as much boost as they want , which should be fun , pity there is almost no lag . I think they should go back to having separate tyres for qualifying and the race . Loved seeing Mansel and Senna blistering round on the supper soft Qualy tires . Then have what ever they want for the race . I like the idea of the smaller wings and less gubbings around the exhaust , Newy needs a muzzle he's the only reason Vettel was able to win the last few years . I'd say the driver of 2013 was Alonso , to get his hog of a Ferrari that competitive was fantastic . Should be interesting with Kimi back with him .
Last season became a farce with the tyre changes mid season . It was as if Bernie made the change to favour RBR , before that tyre change the other teams were able to fight after they became more durable RBR didn't have to worry that the car was scrubbing it's tyres more than the other teams . I'm a bit annoyed that they did not increase the minimum combined car weight so that taller drivers are not penalised . Hopefully Button will get a better year ( I do think a turbo will suit his smoother driving style ) , Hamilton should do better as well.
Pre season predictions are : Kimi , Alonso and Hamilton fighting for top .
Vettel, Grouson and Button fighting for 4th . Saying that Sutil could be a dark horse .

As a long time F1 fan I agree on some of the points you raise;
1) Abu Dhabi is the most woeful excuse for a circuit and I dubbed it Apoo Crappi in 2009.
2) Double points is a gimmick, but it's the same type of gimmick F1 employed years ago. Although opposite the "Best of" so many rounds gimmick which robbed Senna when Prost pushed him out at Japan had us all talking and made a great show on and off track. However, I can't see this double points being positive though.
I like your prediction B3, I have a bud that is an engineer for Merc (lucky bastard worked on Schumi's cars), every year he's all exited about the how good the car's going to be and once the year starts, always a let down. I expect this year will be the same, Merc will be great before the season starts and then throw it away. Their corporate thinking always holds them back, like BMW many years before, they cut funding to RnD too soon.
My Mum's Workmates son who is at McLaren is the opposite, he's very cagey about the car and likened it to the Arrows he worked on in the 2000s. He expects speed but not grip.
I hoping to get to the Silverstone tests to see a few other teams on track and make a prediction of my own, January is too soon.
Hopefully sit on the bank on the outside of Stowe, its a fantastic place to see how the cars handling is shaping up, I sat through the 2008 GP there.

I think double points would work at tracks like Monaco , Hong Kong and Monza which are challenging tracks . Or at Monaco you get round with out hitting to barriers you get a X 1.5 points bonus . I'd like to see a points system for lower teams like in Touring car so the bottom 4 teams (marushia , Caterham , Williams [who have thunk it 10 years ago]) having a points system of their own but not the drivers . It would help their budgets and stop idiots like Eddie Jordan asking why they are there. I'm really excited about the turbos , can't wait to hear the deep growls and torque out of the corners . From the sound recordings put out by the engine companies it should sound loud and like a pack of Merlins racing around not some high pitched squeal .
Actually could HTC set up a Formula WWII with cars powered by Merlins , Griffons , Napier and other old aero engines ? OOOOO now there would be a sound worth listening too . 1,400 bhp engines running at 2,200 rpm :) :old: :pray

I'm not sure how deep a growl a 1600cc engine can give :)

damn deep . The new Renault is sick .

http://youtu.be/tOKlSnGYgis (http://youtu.be/tOKlSnGYgis) The Ferrari engine is BRUTAL .

Those turbos are quite small compared to what they used in the 80's!
I have a pic of the Brabam BMW,1.5 liter turbo 4 and the turbo is almost as big as the engine itself. IIRC they used close to 6 atmospheres of boost, wonder what boost levels they will be able to use.
I still think the best thing for F1 would be for Bernie to disappear....... :noid

Bernie and Jean both IMO.
In all my rage during my first post I completely forgot about the whole tire debacle the last couple years. I don't blame Pirrelli (they just built what the FIA wanted) but I hated what it did to the racing. Prime example last year was Monaco, normally one of my favorite races, turned into a snoozefest by the tires, every driver was just leisurely cruising around to a very slow set delta because they were all so afraid of losing the tires. The only driver that whole race to actually put in a racing lap was Kimi, on the last 2 laps... DC called the Monaco race "rubbish" and I think a lot of others weren't much better.
Basically so much of the season came down to "tire management" and now they say next year will be "fuel management" too. ...sigh... I want to watch "racing" not "management" drivers should be able to do more then half a lap flat-out before the tires "fall off the cliff".

It seems the most important thing for motorsport bosses is to be seen "doing something".
Take Moto GP. Engine size was reduced to 800cc from 990cc in order to limit top speeds exceeding 200mph and save fuel and money.
The teams went away. Spent millions in r&d and hey presto we were back to 200mph.
Then they reduced fuel capacity to limit top speed and save fuel and money.
Away went the teams, spentmillions in r&d. Hey presto 200mph + top speeds again.
After tens of millions oftechnical development, we are now back to 1000cc. Using pretty much the same amount of fuel as the 990 era!
And seriously, are we expected to believe that 20 motorcycles, travelling less than 1000miles a year, are producing sufficient pollution that we need to limit their minimal fuel consumption?

If you don't want management then don't look at F1 in the 80's for inspiration . There the driver had to back off if his exhaust was getting to hot , if he didn'e have enough fuel , his tyres were falling off the cliff . He had to take care of his engine far more than modern drivers . Thinking that it was all flat out racing in the past is just so wrong . The reason Mansel was so good was not that he was just fast , but also he knew when to push and when to back off . The same with Prost , Senna , Alasi . They had to manage tyres , fuel and engines just as much . In some cases more so .
Management of the car I think should be an integral part of F1 . Things were very interesting with the pirelli tyres at the beginning of the season , while they gave out quickly for some drivers there was huge rewards for smoother more consistent drivers . The super soft of the early 90's were pretty bad for ware .

I agree with this 100%
But as I said the talk was by midseason all the drivers were on the sim doing runs to get the best milage as fuel will be an issue if you run the car to hard.
I havent heard what is going on with tires but again I think they should be give 1 set for the race only to keep them out of the pits. I detest passing in the pits, it promotes unsafe releases and someone is going to get seriously hurt.
They removed refueling because of fire and the risks involved, only time I think you should come into pits is for a flat and then only the flat can be changed. This would put the griver in total control to do the most with the car you have.Maybe some of the back runners would see the podium because they managed the car better.
Then again I'm for unlimited F1 cars, they should have the biggest and baddest power plants to spin a tire,Auto Union comes to mind..... :D
