Its just recently struck me how quickly time has passed. Not at all by intention, I turn 19 in exactly two weeks to the hour.
10 years ago was only 2004.
My favorite song, Paper Wings, is now 9 years old.
Sadam Hussein was executed more than 7 years ago.
Casino Royal was released in 2006
Oh Brother Where Art Thou was released in 2001.
Pluto hasn't been a planet for over 7 years now.
The HALO series, possibly THE most widely known modern game franchise to date is 13 years old.
The Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity landed on Mars more than 10 years ago.
Michael Jackson will be 5 years dead this June.
Lion King will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this June as well.
Can any of you old guys tell me if the apparent time dilation continues, or does it plateau at some point :D?

It gets worse
When I was 19, I had only one thing on my mind, and it wasnt how time flies by ;)

I was in boot-camp (1981). Time moved slowly. I was immortal. :D

The battle of Mogadishu was 20 years ago. Nirvana is now older than the Beatles were in the 80s. Grunge is now on classic rock stations. I've had Internet and a cell phone since before the class of 2014 was born. A line from my favorite show-"she was born in the 80s, she still uses her phone to phone people."

then you will realize everything you should have done...recognize everything you didn't do...and wish you did everything you could have done.....and it was all in a blink of an eye.

The original Nintendo was released in North America 29 years ago (31 years ago as the Famicom in Japan).
Aces of the Pacific was released 22 years ago.
I graduated High School 16 years ago.
The Fellowship of the Ring hit theaters 13 years ago.

I think of life like one of the wall calendars in the old 1940s films, where the pages fell off to signify the passage of time.
When you're young - up until you finish school - the pages fall slowly. Every hour is packed with new things.
When you're done with school and move into the work force, the pages fall fast. Every day is the same as the last day.
When you have kids, the pages fall slowly again, because every hour is packed with new things.
Then, when your kids leave, the pages fall quickly again.
Don't know yet if they ever slow down after that.

So true..
But it is a good thing that a 19yr old realizes time flies, hopefully he will learn to cherish the more important things in life at a younger age.

Yep time is relative. As you get older the time a year takes to pass gets smaller relative to ones lifespan.

A quote from Grumpy Old Men:
Then one day you wake up, and you realize that you're not 81 anymore.

I don't know if thats a good thing or not....
the way you say it...sounds like it could be a good thing...but if he is worried about time flying...he will miss out on being a young guy and the enjoyment of what goes with that, I say that because I grew up way to fast....I truly didn't have a child hood the way most do...so one thing I wish I could do is to go back and have that childhood without knowing life sux...

When I was 19 I was at Bovington doing my tracked vehicle license, then a 6 month tour in NI.
My daughter was born 2 days before I shipped out.
She's now 18 and studying at University.
How do I not feel any different but for the aches and pains :headscratch:

Last week i remember standing out at the end of the driveway putting my kids (twins) on the bus for Kindergarten
This week i see them standing alone at the end of the driveway getting on the bus for 8th grade
Sadly, next week I see me standing at the end of the driveway watching their tail lights drive off as they leave for college :(

I'm in my thirties, and I find myself thinking of myself as a kid still for some reason. I don't feel any older except for the aches and pains (and beer gut) that come with getting past the 20's. It blows my mind that the early nineties were twenty years ago.
You guys with kids at or over 18 are kinda scaring me... heh. My twins are three years old in a couple weeks, and time is rushing by. I worry that if I close my eyes they'll be too big for me to hold them and rock them back to sleep when they have nightmares.

Very true, my hope was that he realized that, especially with input from others like yourself, it is best to slow down and enjoy because it does go so fast.
Even though it does go by so fast I still catch myself at times wishing it was going faster. Hoping for a vacation to start, praying for winter to end so spring (and fishing) gets here, looking forward to retirement etc.. Have to kick myself and stop hoping my life away and realize that right now is good, just have to stop and smell the roses.

Life is fragile. Make the most of every moment.
