Title: Fighter Scores only for aerial combat
Post by: MANDOBLE on January 29, 2001, 07:37:00 AM
IMO, fighter scores should represent the aerial combat results of a pilot.

The following ideas would contribute to a more precise scoring model.

1 - If you are killed by a ground vehicle, PT or ack, the death is added to your "attack" K/D ratio, not to the "fighter" K/D ratio.

2 - If you kill a grounded aircraft, the kill is counted as "ground object destroyed", not as an aerial kill (vulch problem almost solved).

3 - If you are killed while grounded, the death is added to your vehicle/boat K/D ratio. IMO, a grounded aircraft is more like a vehicle than a fighter. As an example, suppose a real P51 straffing 20 109s parked on the ground, should those 109s count as aerial victories for the P51 pilot?

This way, the fighter score will be related exclusively to aerial combat.

The "vultch" problem could already be easily solved by those who feel they are getting "vultched" not taking off from a capped field.

In real life, pilots rarely tried to take off from a field under attack because of the danger and vulnerability of an aircraft climbing out.

They didn't have the option of teleporting to a different field. We do. I think the best suggestion regarding vultching is to simply take off from a different field... or take your chances and not complain when your butt gets handed to you.

Agreed with the vulch bit, but other than that mandoble has some sensible points.

There were only two categories a plane was counted. Destroyed or damaged. Whether it was in the air or on the ground, they counted the same.
