i had this huge rant set to go, but then it was explained to me and why. i wont go into details, but as a CO that has to write the orders, i understand what it takes go give people assignments they might not like. some players wont even show up if they don't like the orders. JG54 just showed up and did our best
<S> to Devil505 :salute GOOD JOB on a tough decision!!
I'm glad you chose us(JG54) for a impossible mission, and I'm very glad we surprised you by some of us making it back!
May all the CiC's and squads learn from this, you might not like it, but you gotta give it your best try!
JG54 always gives it our best effort.

Right there with you skipper! I would have likely made it back but for the disco that totally crashed me out of the game. Tough, tough mission

I whine and moan every time we get our assignments. it seems we always get "fighters" with no ammo or bombers that carry little more than hand grenades.
but I still have fun flying with my squadies. so I make the best of it. :rock :rock :rock

<S> Jaeger1 and Jg54. The A5 target was one that I mulled over extensively (although I still muffed it by giving you escorts that couldn't go the distance). I wanted to send the bare minimum while still meeting the "credible force" clause. The original plan was for just 4-6 betties - no escort, but the only small squads had requested fighters only, and I didn't want to risk a no-show by a small squad. I then decided on a 7-10 size, and looked at the requests again. There was Jg54, the only 7-10 that had requested a frame of bomber duty. While I would have sent any squad that fit the basic requirement, I knew that you guys would make a good showing of a tough assignment. Much to my relief, Jg54 proved once again that it is much more than just a "Credible Force"

LOL Devil. Ever feel that when you are CIC that you are dancing to someone else's tune? For those that haven't done CIC, and you dare to think you got a bad ride in FSO, put yourself in the CIC's shoes one time. By the time you meet minimum standards for attacks, it's like someone else wrote the orders. . . about 3 months in front of you. And they did . . . sneaky Admins.

Begs the question: What did they fly the last 3 frames? I know from personal experience that checking the logs is tedious, but when faced with hard choices it was a tool I used to be fair to all.
But that is not my main focus for quoting this. The concern that a squad may bail due to not liking the orders is.
In the beginning of my CO duties this was a fear of mine. Up to the point that I instructed The Nightmares (at the time one of the largest squads in FSO) to up 88s and escorts to level a V-base on a BOB type map. It was just after we were 1st allowed to have a squad split into 2 rides. The area was isolated from the rest of the fight. I had been handed large and small squads with only 2 medium squads The other side had several medium squads with few small or large. The math worked for the side split, but it left me with several small squads that I was unfamiliar with. And several of the small squads had B5N duties the last FSO. I let fear dictate and gave the orders so one area would work well for our side. I got a BBS PM and tower com suggestion that it was a waste of resources. I confirmed the orders.
The Nightmares blew through the OPFOR, leveled the base with few casualties and were asking for a secondary. I told them to land the 88s per orders as they were high value in that set up. They landed as a squad which was foreign to me due to being in an MA squad that was full of alpha males. 10 fighter out of the 2nd half. I can't apologise enough for that.
Not long after that we did not have CIC duties and were assigned B5Ns with no re up as a low end fighter. We failed our commitment miserably. It did not help that a storm prevented me for being on hand. Had to see it on the BBS.
We had not been in FSO all that long, but we represented a vary large MA squad at the time. I brought it to our MA CO attention and he backed me up 100%.
He informed the squad that if they had "the flu" they we to inform the FSO staff ahead of time (nice version of his true wording) so that other arrangements could be made and that failing in duty to the squad could result in dismissal.
We have fallen short a few times since. Tornado season is particularly bad (shout out to the Oklahoma section). But now 30% of the FSO squad are not MA squad mates. They started as periodic fill-ins and demonstated that they will show no matter what.
As squad COs and CICs you are asked to look at the big picture. Each of your squads have be given a hard path, poor ride, taken a hit for the team,... if you have been here a while. If a CiC does his homework and is fair in assignments a squad that balks is a squad that does not belong here. They show their true character and that is not the CIC's fault. It is, however much it may hurt a side's overall performance, a good thing to know.
My squad at one time was less than I gave them credit for. They are now more than I ever hoped for because the problem was allowed to reveal itself.

FSO is for receiving orders doing ones job and having fun.
Some players need to take there MA attitude, and put it away when flying fso ,or stay in MA.

Agreed :aok You may not always like your orders or how they play out, but you do your part of the plan reguardless. Now given that, If you think you see a flaw in the orders, by all means let your CiC know. Thus the reason we like to see orders out by Wednesday so there's a day to make any small changes that may need to be done before Friday. Keep in mind the CiC is in charge and orders are orders. All in all though, Most squads in FSO don't have any issues.

Indeed.
Just to reemphasize, what I said was a compliment to the absolute professionalism of Jg54, and not a bash on any other squad or player. I don't believe the FSO roster right now has any player's or squads that would blatantly ditch the event over disagreements with the orders; but with the guys in Jg54, the chance of that happening is precisely zero.

Devil, sorry for the hijack.
As your squad is fairly new to FSO and I was supprised that you had CiC duty so soon, I was trying to give some advice to hopefully shorten the learning curve.
Upon further review of the logs I believe the curve may be shorter for you than it was for me.

Just FYI, the squad name is new, not the members. :salute

The squad name may be new, but most of us will be familiar to you as members of the former Kommando Nowotny.
Appreciate the helpfulness though. :salute

Thanks devil, we have a good group of guys in Jg54. This one had us scratching our heads thinking how to get the job done and that it might not even be doable. I can only imagine facing conditions like this for real, as happened so often for those who lived it. Many a brave soul stepped up on all sides to be certain! :salute

devil505, we(JG54) never took it at anything less then a compliment. its all good!

Now that we were able to find the hurdles for achiveing this objective, hopefully the other squads who are given this task in frame 2 and 3 will be able to learn from and improve on our run on this tough target.
